hey guys does a dd with a jazz in aa sg sound good with mohagny body? i was thinking of getting the gibson sg standard! thanks

Re: a dd in a sg

I'd go with something much thicker for an SG, like a Custom.

Re: a dd in a sg

Any pup with a full open tone works great with SG's. I use Demons and Distortions with 500k pots. A '59 neck can be kinda boomy if your not EQ'd right, but sounds fat.

I have yet to try a Custom, which I hear is great for thinner SG's. But I need to buy another SG for that venture.

Re: a dd in a sg

The SG bridge can really sound quite thin, so it needs special considerations. I use a Dimarzio TZ and get excellent results. I haven't tried other aftermarket pickups in it, though. The Gibson one sucked.

Anyways, don't let this pickup talk scare you out of buying that SG! They're really great guitars, maybe my favourite!

Ivander would be thick, yes. But it would also be muddy(invader + mahogany = MUD!!!)

Have you actually played an SG to know it would be muddy with some pickups in the bridge position? I have the DMZ TZ in mine which seems to be considered as one of the darkest of pickups, and it's great. It's not only the wood, other construction facts matter too, and in this case more, IMO!

Re: a dd in a sg

No, I havn't played and Invader loaded SG. But I have heard one. It was through a mesa rectoverb and it was pretty muddy on the vintage mode

Re: a dd in a sg
