Re: A few specific questions about testing wood influence on tone
But also for real.
But also for real.
I thought you said you didnt know how to use it?
I have science.
You have belief.
You are in the (likely) majority, affirming something exists.
I am in the (likely) minority, asserting its incorrect.
Tonewood agnostics or no-opinion's probably don't get enough acknowledgement and make up more people than either side.
80% of Americans believe Angels exist.
20% believe they do not.
Who is responsible for demonstrating evidence of their stance?
The 20% do their thing by simply pointing out that there is no compelling evidence Angels exist and that the 'evidence' presented is either anecdotal or not credible (for exanmple, pictures of angels, etc) and the fact believers are in the majority is irrelevant. The 80%, well, they look pretty much completely like tonewood believers do, in this discussion.
Someone in the 80% might say "I KNOW ANGELS EXIST BECAUSE ONE VISITS ME EVERY TUESDAY!"
Someone in the 20% might say "OK, I'll bet you $10,000 if you can prove that, you win, if not, you pay me. Let me know the address and I'll be there Tuesday".
"DO YOU HAVE A GAMBLING PROBLEM???? I DON'T NEED TO PROVE IT TO ANYONE!!! I KNOW WHAT IS TRUE!!!! PEOPLE HAVE BELIEVED IN ANGELS FOR THOUSANDS OF YEARS! YOU THINK THEY BELIEVE THAT FOR NO REASON????? YOU'RE JUST ARROGANT WITH YOUR SCIENCE I KNOW WHAT IS TRUE ALONG WITH ALL THESE OTHER PEOPLE!!! JOHN B. OZOASS WHO IS A PhD HAS ASSERTED THAT ANGELS ARE PROVEN BY ELECTRO MECHANICAL REPRODUCTION AND THE FLYNN EFFECT!!! SCIENCE SUPPORTS US, NOT YOU!!!"
Believers; LOL.
Serious question for those with enough motivation to search: did he post anywhere other than in the threads about tonewood?
Back to science.
Too bad he's gone now, but I wanted to post some real numbers for our science discussion that the rest of all you believers are not going to believe. I reread the entire thread from the beginning to put this together.
- 34 members posted
- ~25 directly contributed ideas or method proposals for running a valid, controlled scientific experiment
- Only 4 within the thread ever stated a belief that wood affected tone
- 2 of those 4 believed the affect would not be consistent enough, or able to be isolated enough, to generalize or predict the affect by species
- None of those 4 who believed wood affected tone were ever labeled as 'tonewood believers' or attacked as being part of the other 'side'
- About 9 pages of the first 14 were attacks on people who were actually contributing in support of the topic
- This list was electromechanically reproduced. So what of it?
Have a good day.
So nobody really disagreed with Tonewoods, and all that back there was a harmonious exchange of thoughts and ideas. I must have just taken it all wrong.
He wood have had more, but the mods took a router and carved out the other tonewoods thread. He did not. At the time I scienced, all 44 of his posts were in this thread. The count has wavered due to various post deletions.
