A Fire That Doesn't Burn

King Midas to Cheap Guitars

Another refinish with Rustoleum's Plastic Primer and enamel.

One thing I really like about this amp (aside from the great death metal tone) is the size and weight. A lot of the solid state amps from the 90s were made to look as big as the tube equivalent amps and just wasted a lot of space and wood.

My only complaint is the FX loop (which I use for recording direct) is a single stereo jack, meaning I had to get a stereo splitter to use it.

Re: A Fire That Doesn't Burn

You're funny, in an awesome way. An orange Crate with the logo still intact...

Re: A Fire That Doesn't Burn

Because death metal and neon colors just go together so well.

One of the guys from Nile uses this:

Yes, the labeling really is pink and light blue. I just got one today. :D

Re: A Fire That Doesn't Burn

I want an orange crate of oranges.

Hey Dominus, Great looking job. Nicely done, sir. How durable is that finish on Tolex? Does it chip? Peal? Wear off?

From what I've read, the plastic primer really bonds with the tolex, and then the paint bonds with the primer. If you look closely, you can see all the texture of the tolex, it's not like the paint was filling it in. I think it will hold up pretty well. I do have a few pieces of scrap from a combo that I converted to a head, I might paint it and let it sit for a little while and then abuse it to see what happens.

weird. you're kind of a color junky huh

You could probably guess that from my profile picture showing my guitar collection. :firedevil

Re: A Fire That Doesn't Burn

Color is beautiful, adds fun and spice to playing.

Looks like you did a supurb job, I can definitely see all of the original texture. Looks like a regular manufacturer's color tolex.

Thanks for that info Dominus, I might just try it myself. I certainly would be interested in the results of your experimentation with the stuff.

Re: A Fire That Doesn't Burn

prolly will hold up pretty well since the tolex is taut. If you were to bend or flex it, the paint would be more apt to peel. Then you'd have orange peel I suppose... ba dum tum..... haha
