A friend of mine needs your help finding a bridge pickup..

My brother in law has finally seen the light, and ditched his Ibanez JEMs in favor of a Tokai Love Rock.

Very cool guitar, an LS92. Sounds great, Proper mahogany axe. Has a balanced sound and fat mids.

He is going for a similar sound to what I used a few years back. That old Vivian Campbell/ Sykes esque tone. He wants something similar to these two clips:

And the sound in this (Scott is barely hearable here, so its all Sykes)

So basically, biting, yet thick, high gain old school sound. He has a good JCM800 2203 for this, so the basic blueprint for the sound is there.

We discussed this at great length, as he isnt a pickup buff, and came up with these options:
Seymour Duncan Custom
Seymour Duncan Invader
DiMarzio X2N
DiMarzio Super 2
Gibson Dirty Fingers (My old favorite - Sykes a la grande, I know, but also quite one trick pony)

Feel free to suggest other stuff, but please provide a reason why. No UOA5 or A8. He wants something that works, and I dont want to tinker with that stuff. :)

Hope you can help me, help him, bros :)

+1

Sykes has used the Dirty Fingers and the 57 Classics.

Viv has been keen on the Tommy Iommi pups.

Thanks for your opinions :-) anyone care to share about the dimarzios? Also been considering the Duncan Distortion. How would that fare for this?

Re: A friend of mine needs your help finding a bridge pickup..

I used SD Distortion on my explorer but I changed it over to Blackout AHB-1 and it sounded MUCH better (at least for the old schooldeath metal Im playing). But if I had to choose I think I would like to try out the EMG JH set.

what about dimarzio super D? SD distortion is for chugging I think.
