A generous friend let me record with his '69 Maple Cap olympic white strat

Re: A generous friend let me record with his '69 Maple Cap olympic white strat

Maple cap refers to the top, not the headstock or fretboard. Also almost every Fender neck is made of maple. You would actually have to specify that the instrument you played had a wood other than maple because its assumed at this point.

While I also think of a maple cap as being on a body like LPs, PRSs', etc, many Fender connoisseurs refer to the 2 piece maple necks which are separate neck and fretboard vs the one piece maple necks as "maple cap" or "maple slab" necks/fretboards which would most likely be on a 69 strat. While I still question the guitar, especially w/o pics, Nathan has apparently done some homework on the features of said guitar.

There were also curved maple laminate fretboards some years, but I don't know any specifics.

Yeah, I think of Maple Cap as being a Maple top on a body BUT quite a few refer to the late '60s 2 piece Maple necks as having a Maple cap.

The Louvre generously allowed me to hang the mona lisa above my toilet for the past month. I'd love to share pics but I just respect the wishes of the Louvre too much.

And Megan Fox is currently sitting on the crapper after getting a tummy ache from a spicy pizza we just shared, I doubt any of you want to see a pic of that
'C''mon Megan hurry up!! I need to go too!'

not sure what the big deal is just because its vintage..Ive owned some pretty old gear and still do. I assure ya that these big companies release duds..or guitars that where devoid of positive tonal characteristics..Just because something is vintage doesnt mean its special but some vintage gear is pretty special. Especially if the instrument has a history

And worrying about a photo taking away or somehow disrupting the "mojo" of an instrument is pure BS.. Thats not what mojo is.. IMO... Mojo is the bond between player and guitar. That IS mojo and its NOT transferable to other players even though it is conceivable that several people could bond with the same instrument over the years

That's actually more believable than the OP because flash photography does actually fade/damage the painting and the locals get really upset when people do that. Tell Megan I enjoyed taking refuge in her Fox hole.

That may be true of anything after '71 called "vintage "..but if you EVER find a dog of a pre 1971 Strat, I'll BUY IT ( becasue it isnt a dog, it can't be a dog, and I'll get a great Pre-CBS Strat cheap)! I've heard thsoe ridiculous internet posts about that old vintage pre- CBS Strats are nothng particularly special because they wrer hit and miss and blah blah blah, and thats where I think you picked that up, but thats total BS.

cbs bought fender in january '65. pre cbs is '64 and earlier. even though cbs owned fender though '65 they didnt really make many changes right away by '66 things had changed a fair amount, big headstock, less contoured body, indian rw rather than brazillian, pe rather than formvar although this started in '64 i think, thick poly finishes started in '68 i think. still if i could get a '69 strat i would, its just not a pre-cbs strat

This thread is 1000% win. All of the posts; including the OPs.

Yes I'm dead serious.

You don't believe me.

I think everyone has misunderstood. He never said Fender, only 69. Take it however you wish.

Re: A generous friend let me record with his '69 Maple Cap olympic white strat

"real '69 strat"

Re: A generous friend let me record with his '69 Maple Cap olympic white strat

Ah, so the brand name is 'Real'. Never heard of it.

umm no dude..that excuse might fly and i say might if you recorded it with a decent equipment

i hate to say it but
PICS or it never happened

and im still failing to see the love of gear before a certain year or perhaps after a certain year. just because its vintage doesnt mean that all gear from that era will have any kind of mojo or even play or sound worth a damn.. Im pretty sure that duds where made back them as well as some pretty incredible instruments

if someone gave me a 62 strat.. id play the f*ck out of it and perhaps mod it to my needs, BASICALLY not baby it as its still just a guitar to me.. perhaps it has more history but its still a guitar that needs to be played AND NOT put in a display case, in a vault or in a museum,etc.. LOL.. im hard on my #1 but i do love that guitar and in return i get a hard-on after playing it . that MOJO my friend.. when your guitar gives you a hard-on and makes you smile after you that first chord
