A Hamer '59 is a Duncan?

A guy is going to sell me a pair of SD '59s from a new Hamer guitar. Can I assume this is the same pickup as a stock SD '59 off the shelf? The reason I ask is because I know a Fender Pearly gates and the SD Pearly gates use two different magnets.

If it's from a Hamer USA, then the answer is yes. They should be labeled on the back: 59N or 59B if they are real Duncans. The Fender Pearly Gates PLUS is an alnico 5 version of the regular Pearly Gates which uses alnico 2. Lew

He said they had chrome covers. He probably was mistaken for nickel, right?

Re: A Hamer '59 is a Duncan?

Hmm, I'd make sure it's a Hamer USA guitar if I were you. Most USA Hamer's do not come with covered pickups unless you custom order the guitar and specify covered pickups. I know the Studio uses '59s, and I believe the Standards do as well. The Korean-made Hamers have covered pickups, but they are not real Duncan pickups. So if he's trying to sell you a covered '59, make sure it's from an American Hamer. Otherwise, it might not be an actual '59.

Ryan is correct. Good advice. Now it is starting to sound like these might not be USA made 59's after all.

The Monaco, newport, duotone, and some of the artist line guitars have covers. Like earlier stated the back of the pup will say what it is.

True, but those don't come with '59s. Make sure to look at the baseplate to confirm that they are real '59s.

I got them today and they say SH-1, SD, made in the U.S.A.
However, they are brighter in appearance than my Burstbuckers with a nickel plated cover. So, I'm assuming it's really is a chrome plated cover.
Maybe Duncan did chrome plating instead of Nickel for Hamers?
Anyhow, I like the bright chrome.
Just confused why they "are" chrome.
