A little advice

Hey guys, new to the boards and i've been doing my homework and i'm deciding to switch out my bridge humbucker again.

To start, i'll tell you what I usually run.

Peavey XXL head
Peavey Cabinet
DOD EQ through the effects loop
Ibanez GAX 30 with seymour suncan invader in the bridge and upgraded grover tuners.

I get some pretty good mids and basically the bottom three heavey strings sound pretty good but my top 3 highs ones sound awful!!! :smack:

I don't know what it is, I thought after getting a new amp it would solve my problem (I crank the distortion and highs up but they still sound too muddy for my taste).

Heres some things i've already done so people won't mention

I have adjusted the pick up height and nothing.
I have used different kinds and different gauges of strings.
I did buy the pick up used

I know one major thing is the tonal properties from my guitar (basswood, maple neck, rose wood fingerboard) I absolutely HATE basswood. Just sounds dead to me and I plan getting a new guitar for x-mas.

But anyways, would anybody have any advice. Is it most likely the pickup? Electronics? Are guitar? I don't think it's my amp cause I like it for now and i've played different guitars out of it and sounds pretty good.

My plans were to switch out the Invader and put in a Dime bucker or something that will give me a lot of highs. I also wanted to switch out the neck for a Jazz and take out ALL the electronics and put in new/ higher quality kind.

If any of you guys have any advice, that'd be GREAT cause this has been bothering me for awhile and I want to try to solve the problem. I don't expect it to sound like a triple rectifier with a PRS running through it. Just something with better highs!!!

That sounds like a great plan. New pots and a new cap will likely do wonders for your tone, and that sounds like a good pickup to try.

Thanks a lot dude, I appreciate it. I don't think re-wiring it will be expensive and the pick ups won't cost that much but if it helps then i'll do it.

I find the Invader muddy in the general sense, but did ya try adjusting the individual pole pieces? I.e. lower the 3 wound strings poles? or you can raise the unwound strings poles a bit....

And could def be a prob w/ the pup too if it was bought used.

Try the polepieces and if that doesnt work, try a different pup. It's a fairly cheap investment...and the axe will be easier to sell when the time comes for a new one if it actually sounds good, ya know?

Damnit, I wish my strings didn't break last night and I threw them away. I never knew you could actually adjust the pickup....i'll have to try and pick up some string today. Thank you though.

Well it's got the HUGE polepieces, so you dont have as much adjustment as a "normal pickup..but I would set them all down as far as they will go, and then raise the thre eunwound strings a turn or so and experiment...
