A little dissapointed with USACG...

Well nothing major, as I'm sure the worksmanship will be great, just I'm really itching to build my guitar and its going on being a month late of the estimate they gave me. The body is done, but I'm under the impression my neck has been sitting doing nothing for some time now. I should have it by the end of next week according to them.

Gah I'm impatient. I won't rush my guitar, but I would love to have it ready by the time my school does the Battle of the Bands, Hurricane Katrina benefit.

it'll be worth the wait ... necks take longer 'cause there's more work involved

as I said in my recent post, my ash strat from them has the best custom neck I've ordered

Just keep in mind warmoth's wait time for necks is around 10 weeks right now. So you probably are lucky.

It's hare to wait....I know. If the body is ready, you could always get a warmoth neck from the "showcase" and use that until the USAGG neck is done. You wouldn't have much trouble selling it on eBay afterwards.

USACG is a bit slow but the work is excellent. I know waiting is hard but it'll be worth it.

Are you getting the neck finished? I believe they are in the process of setting up an in-house finishing facility, similar to what Warmoth has. That could be what's causing the holdup.

It'll be worth it. Period. Consider it time to spend with your current necks before they feel inferior ;).

Guys,

I'm thinking about having a body built for my 3 bolt 76 Strat-I was considering Warmoth b/c they do in-house painting. Do you guys think that the USACG bodies are actually better in build quality? I've heard that, but didn't want to have to get a second shop to do the painting...but it sounds like that may not be an issue anymore. Any opinions?

Nah I got my Schecter C-1 Plus, which has served me well over the years, thanks though Jeff. Just I'd like to have a sexy tele slung on my shoulder when I win it ;).

Yea, I'm sure the quality is gonna be great, and I also made sure when I call never to ask them to please hurry up, as I want to let them do their thing, which is from what I understand, is making some amazing necks.

I plan on painting it myself through reranch.

I know some people prefer USACG necks to Warmoth necks, but as far as the bodies go I'd say they are even in terms of quality. It's really a matter of what you want, which place can do it, and how much you're looking to spend. USACG is a true custom shop...if you're willing to pay for it, they're willing to do it. Warmoth offers a ton of custom options, more than USACG, but if it's not listed on their site they won't do it. If all you need is a body, I'd say they're even. I'd go with whichever one is cheaper with less of a wait.

IMHO they aren't even in the same league as far as necks go (USACG wins hands down), but I'd have to agree about the quality of bodies being about the same. BTW Warmoth will do plenty of options not listed on the site, just beware that everything is subject to an upcharge (including options listed on the site). As far as finishing goes, my experience with a Warmoth body was great in terms of the dye job they did, but the poly finish is a bit thick. Does it affect the tone? Don't know... I don't have a clue what USACG is planning in terms of finishing materials.

I'm like this on an amp build, waiting on parts. It's difficult, but sometimes you have to wait on the "good stuff."

Patience is most definitely a virtue as it pertains to guitar and amp building. Building my guitar has taking 6 months, and its finally in the shop getting the final coats of finish. IT will all be worth it though.

If I was going to purchase an aftermarket guitar body with a poly finish, I'd go Roxy. Roxy tries to put as thin a coat as possible, and Ty has a reputation for doing great work. Dawn at Naked Body even recommended him to us when we were looking for a finish for Seymour's tele.
