A little review of the DiMarzio AirZone

The Kramer Stagemaster I got Friday came with a DiMarzio AirZone. Now the guitar is TECHNICALLY (no one knows for sure, ESP and Kramer weren't too consistent by then) an all maple neck through. Read VERY bright. And this pickup sounds... you guessed it... Anything but bright! Right on! The DiMarzio website talks about balanced EQ but I had to dig deep to find treble and high mids in there. Bass however, allover the place, you can't miss them.
Now where this pickup does well, is that it can't get muddy. I dialled in as much bass as I could and still, no mud. Just... er... more bass. No useable sound for me.
Harmonics sound AMAZING and it also has a great lead tone. Quite a singing voice for single notes.
Not hot enough for me either.
Articulation isn't too great either, but it doesn't make the pickup unusable.
If I could, I'd use it in the neck position wired in parrallel. I'd be VERY warm though so I'd only do that in a very bright guitar, and even so I can't be sure it'd be useable. But ah well... It came out and was replaced by my Bareknuckle Miracle Man. Improvement for me, but still not quite what I want. I shall try the Custom next when I get my magnets.
I only had 2 days to try it out so these are pretty basic impressions, nothing too serious. Try one out for yourself if you're interested.

That bassy? Well, mileages do vary. Thanks for the review.

BTW, I get it you're letting that Air Zone go? You have a new home for it already??? If possible, I "could" be interested in it...

Re: A little review of the DiMarzio AirZone

Thanks for the review....I'm going with the VPAF Neck to match up with the VPAF Hot I bought recently....Both double cremes naturally...
