A minute of joy/rumble in my muffins!!

With all thats going on with my daughter, been really busy with that and hadnt played guitar in a week or so. Since I have to go to my storage facility and take back some toys and get ones out I need to sell, I thought Id give myself 10-15 minutes of joy.. Last couple times I played have been pretty uninspired.. Today, I did something I for some reason never do.. I downtuned my epi lp a full step. I almost always play in standard or once in awhile in drop d. Today I went a full step down. OMG!! Sounded amazing and I could feel the rumble in my muffins from that 2x12 on the floor. Had one of those rare sessions where I was playing better than normal.. Think that axe will stay in that tuning!! The Gibson pups that are in it sound pretty good, but just a wee bit bright.. So tuned lower and the tone just slightly rolled back.. awesome!! Sorry, nothing informative to read here, just wanted to share my buzz!!

I guess, Ill make it more and ask how many of you play in lower tunings??

Re: A minute of joy/rumble in my muffins!!

Bending is super easy in Eb and the tone is fatter even if you put a capo a fret one for some reason?!
I've started leaving my strat in Eb so if I want to play along with something in that tuning I don't need to retune

Re: A minute of joy/rumble in my muffins!!

I write in Eb and Drop Db. On seven string, I like to keep it in Standard, but I do also write in Bb and Drop Ab.

Re: A minute of joy/rumble in my muffins!!

I have most of my guitars in D standard. I use heavier strings so it doesn't seem to bend any easier, but I like the tone better than E standard.
I keep my 7 string in E standard, but have been known to tune that down a full step on occasion.

Glad you could find a moment of enjoyment.

I like to keep one guitar in D/Drop C for my Kyuss, COC and Sword style explorations.

Re: A minute of joy/rumble in my muffins!!

I keep my guitars in Eb because I find it much easier to sing in that tuning. If I want to play along to the TV, longcat's Strat & LP are in A440...

Re: A minute of joy/rumble in my muffins!!

Same here...everything in Eb (not that I sing haha). I like jamming in D standard too.

Re: A minute of joy/rumble in my muffins!!

Yeah, think Im gonna leave this one tuned down. Id like to tune one of my super strats down too. (will have to block a trem) Or I may drop my strat down once I get the neck sorted out. (has a bucker in it) I have a Dtuna on one of my charvels.. But want to have one dropped fully.

Re: A minute of joy/rumble in my muffins!!

You won't necessarily have to block the trem. If you increase the gauge and tension, a small trem claw adjustment will put it all back in balance.

When I tune to D standard I just play a lot of Death tunes ;). Oh and some originals too.
