It think I have created a MONSTER!

I have had a mutt US Washburn MG for around 20 or so years. Really pretty quilt top body with a solid maple neck that was on the thick side a traditional srat style bridge and unusual set of EMGs. Guitar always sounded good and played well but that thick neck I just never cared for. I also had a NOS Washburn US Custom bound neck. A true one off Custom shop neck that had never been mounted and the nut never slotted. Well I decided to pull the thick neck and replace it with that NOS one off neck. It's amazing and I have NEVER played anything that sustains like this guitar. It's just alive and even unplugged it sustains like crazy. With my Archon head the cleans sustain like I'm running high gain. I hit my compressor and this thing will not only sustain infinitely but go into feedback!! I am amazed it was unexpected and is very special. The pickups are ancient EMGs 85 in the bridge and a H60 A both with alnico 5 mags and do not sound like typical active EMG's. I never dreamed this combo with turn out like this, just WOW!! Quick photo that in no way really shows how stunning this top really is. Also, a photo of the raw neck. This thing plays like a dream and sounds unbelievable. What's frustrating is I have all the parts for many years but had no idea this would be a monster like this!!
Sometimes combos of parts just surprise you, and this is one of them. Sort of like the Alt 8 Sentient combo in my solid KOA 93 DC 127 sounds so good for double stop country with both pickups split together. Sometimes and unexpectedly the whole seems far greater that just the sum of the parts.

whats "on the thick side" mean? the mgs ive played usually had pretty thin necks. granted, i have a handful of guitars that have 1" thick necks all the way from nut to body, so my perspective is a little different than most. sounds like you found a winning combination!

Think early telecaster thickness with a D profile. The neck that was on it was also a US custom shop neck and likely came from a 94 Washburn Laredo which was their high end Tele while Grover was there. This guitar originally was likely a Washburn Custom Shop employee's private personal build. Very nice neck that played very well, just not the profile I like. That neck is in good shape, one piece quarter sawn maple no fretboard and has a 16 radius with 6100 jumbo frets. It will be for sale soon, but I need to come up with a fair price. Shoot me an offer if you're interested.
Here is the guitar before the neck swap. It's in the middle here.
This is a Laredo, and this neck was likely built for one of these guitars.
