A Neck pickup for the SH-15

I know I want to put the new SH-15 Alternative 8 in the bridge position in my les Paul, but I an undecided on what to put in the neck.

I'm a Metal head and I like heavy metal (duh)

I typically use the bridge pickup in a guitar for riffs and the neck for solos.
I know neck pickups in pickups like the 59 and Alnico II are wound slighly less to increase the high end and reduce output to match up better with it's bridge counter part.

Seymour duncan states in the description of the Sh-15 "Matches great with a moderate output neck pickup like the SH-1n ’59 or the SH-2n Jazz Model"

To me, these two pickups sound great, but I personally do not think the output will be sufficent enough to match up with the SH-15, eespically for what I am looking for.

After all that here is what I got so far.
I want a high output for the neck. Not too much bass, but I want a singing and screaming tone for solos.

I got it down to to different models for the neck:

sh-10 Full Shred (Less Mids)
Sh-6 Duncan Distsortion (More Mids)

I Like to know what I should do.

I use a Marshall JCM 800 2x12 Combo w/ Vintage 30s and a Boss Metal Zone (I don't use too much distortion, just enough to make the guitar stick out)

Distortion neck is a good choice if you're into metal, but also you can try the Screamin Demon in the neck. It's designed as a bridge pickup, but it's a nice articulate match for a hot bridge pickup.

When I saw the specs of the SH-15 I got to thinking that maybe the Distortion neck with an Alnico 5 magnet might be a great choice as a neck pickup for it along with maybe the Screamin Demon.

As Frankie said, the Demon should be what you're looking for.

lol. I couldn't have said it better myself. ;)

The FSn and the DDn was the first two that crossed my mind too. But the demon should work good too. I've tried that and liked the tone but maybe it was sliiiiiightly bassy. If your guitar is more on the bright side it'd be just fine.

Anyone That Read This, I Would Like For You To Tell Me What Your First And Second Choices Of A Neck Pickup Should Be.

Choices
-full Shred
-screamin Demon
-duncan Distorton

I've never tried any of the three (I have a bridge Distortion though) but I think my no1 choice would probably be the full shred, followed by the DD.

I WOULD try the SD but it is designed for a bridge pickup and as such, it should have a tad more bass than what you're asking (especially since you said you don't want it to be bassy...)

I do not mind bass.

Naturally if you hace two exact identical pickups and put one in the bridge and one in the neck, naturally the neck pickups will have more low end and the bridge pickup will have more high end.

The reason I am asking for less bass is because the position of the neck pickup will naturally add more low end.

The Screamin Demon was never muddy in the neck and I never thought of it as particularly bassy, but that said I've only tried it in ash and alder.

I like the sound of the jazz, but the i don't think it the output will match up to the power of the sh-15

ALSO

I have a friend who has the Screamin demon in the neck position in his guitar and I will be trying that out in my rig to test it out.

I use a Jazz with my Dimebucker, but the hotter pickups everyone is recommending to you sound more like they match your interests.

If you have enough compression and gain dialed into your amp you may not need the extra output. here's my take- If you use the neck pickup exclusively for solos then maybe you do want to match up a Demon with the Alt-8. But a jazz will give you some versatility too. Sometimes the cleans come into play when it comes to metow, right?

At 12.7k the SD SH-6n Duncan Distortion neck is so far the highest output neck pickup SD makes so this is probably what you're going to need. The SD SH-10 Full Shred neck is only 7.4k which is pretty much the same output as the SH-2n Jazz. What type of guitar are you going to use it for?

Les Paul

And the output is not always based on resistance. It's has many factors including the type and gauge of a wire, number of turns, the method of coiling, polepieces and magnet type are just some of the factors that go into a pickups output.

I just got the sh-15 and a duncan distortion in the mail today. I finished wiring up the pups in my Les Paul around midnight, but i could not turn my amp up loud enough to get a good deal of sound (I would never hear the end of it from my parents), but it sounds good so far.

I Just tried (at full volume) the SH-15 with a Duncan Distortion in the neck. There is no one way to describe the SH-15

First off, there is a who lot of low end, but it's not muddy
A hell of a lot of mids
Treble that bites, but is not harsh at all (unless you boost the hell out of your treble in the amp.)

IT's LOUD, It Screams, it bites, it growls, it sings, more than one word to describe it.

I actually like the Distortion in the neck positon, It's sounds different, but they complement each other very well
