A Neck pickup for the SH-15

Re: A Neck pickup for the SH-15

Good report. Thanks.

What size Pot is in your Paul? :kabong:

Have you tried it with an Alnico V yet? ;)

Re: A Neck pickup for the SH-15

all pots are 500K and there is no way I'm switching over to 1meg pots. there is already a lot of high end and power coming from the sh-15 and I don't think swiching over is a good idea.

I plan on keeping the ceramic magnet in the Duncan Distortion. I think it sounds great as is.:firing:

Whoops, Multiple Thread Intercommunication Reponse Transport Error - from the other thread.

I mean't the Alnico V in the SH-15 ;)

Re: A Neck pickup for the SH-15

Before dropping into multi-thread hell, I was trying to suggest a Full Shred Bridge for the neck. Should have a big fat articlulate loud tone. :burnout:

I was kidding about the changing the magnet (sort of). ;)

Re: A Neck pickup for the SH-15

While it's not the Alt-8 I did swap the mag in one of my JB's a couple of days ago for an A-8. The DC resistance is close so it should at the least be in the ballpark output wise. I had a 59 in the neck on that guitar and the combination matches up quite well in tone and output. The overall volume seems ballanced and I'm getting a solid usable tone in the middle with both in full bucker mode. The A-8 did tighten and fatten up the JB a LOT as well as noticably increase the output.
Do keep in mind that because of the amount of string rotation at that slot the neck position is going to be a LOT louder than bridge. For that reason to get a ballance the neck pickup needs to be weaker than the bridge or at the least much lower.
I think Frank may well be onto something with his 59 B suggestion as a solid Alt-8 neck pickup.
