A New Approach

The green guitar to the left is the instrument in question. It's a Zion Classic Maple: maple top, laminated to basswood back, hard rock maple neck, ebony fingerboard, Kahler Steeler Floyd Rose Licensed locking tremelo, Zion stock (Bill Lawrence designed?) stacked pickups in the neck and middle positions, Duncan JB TB4 in the bridge, Creation Audio Redeemer equipped. (not sure about the electrical wiring/component specs)

I'm playing through a Shaw Tone Rod 40 amp head through a Shaw 1x12 open back cabinet loaded with a Warehouse Guitar Speakers 12" BlackHawk alnico - 50 watt speaker. I LOVE this amp!

The current pickups aren't "doing it" for me. They're not bad, but I feel I can do better. The JB replaced the original Zion humbucker and breathed new life into the guitar. The only problem with the JB is that, to my ear, it sounds too creamy and round on the mid-bottom end. However, crunches very nicely. I've lived with it for over a month now and still sigh at this characteristic.

My question to you is; what pickups would you install to get an approximation of a Guthrie Govan/Lyle Workman type tone given the information above?

P.S. I beginning to think professional help and meds might help. ;-)
