A new combo: EVM12L & Swamp Thang.

Well, I done it...and it sounds pretty good so far!

I recently got a used Mesa Recto vertical 2x12 cab off fleabay, with V30's standard. I actualy liked them better with the back of the cab removed, and 4"-6" away from a long wall to bump up the bass reponse. They sounded thin, and "zipper-y"... to the point of creating a "notch-y" fuzz-tone effect. No big, I really did not think I was going to be satisfied by the tone anyhow, thanks 100% to all of your opinions found by using the search archive.

Anyhow, I removed the V30's, and replaced them with an EVM12L sitting in open back I've had since the mid 1980's...as well as a new Eminence Swamp Thang in the bottom slot. Damn, this 2x12 is loud and proud! 100dB for the EV, and 102dB for the Swamp Thang makes this cab literally sound as loud as various 4x12's!

The bottom end of the Swamp Thang is enormous and round, and the amp dials in the EV's presence. I can now back off the bass of the amp, and push up the mid-range. I have just one hour or so on this combo, so I do not have it totally dialed in yet.

It's a lethal dose of thick, American stoner tone!

Thanks for listening to my ramblings. Have a long/safe Merry Christmas weekend!

awesome sludge.. i have a bunch of different spkrs in 2x12's and my favorite across the board cab is a 2x12 with an EVM12L and a Classic Lead 80. though that cab in tandem with a 2x12 V30 loaded cab really covers the entire spectrum and sounds extremely smooth.

I've put more hours on the combo, and I must say, I am extremely happy with the results. This will be my speaker setup for a loooong time.:)

Now get off this thread, and go play your guitar!:laugh2:

I've got some V30's/Swamp Thangs in my 1960B...and I'm very happy with the tone. I've gotten more results w/ my tone, by changing speakers; than I have by swapping tubes in my amp, FWIW
