on rids rut situation that i saw in another thread im gona voice my limmeted experience. a new idea i have been developig recently.
i find for me there are two types of guitar playing. i play at home, i practice, i make riffs, i use a lot of theory and what comes out usualy sounds fine.
but ther is the other kind, i only expirience this when i go to my dads house, im there now, and this is rare. its what i feel music is more true to, how it was before people thought too mutch about it, the kind of abariginal use of instruments.
he plays with some realy wierd tuning that i have made a point of not knowing. i find tunes and ideas only through trial and error, and remembering that this is how music thory originated, you just play what sounds good to you. i also watch and listen to what he dose, and atempt to coppy it and change it. together we learn quite quickly.
my point is that the second kind is by far the better. it is the main part of my relationship with my dad and it is totaly diferent from anything i can reproduce anywhere else than when im with him.
it provides huge inspiration and has yet to fail to bring me out of a rut.
perhaps you could try to play the guitar how you have never thought to use it, then when you play it normaly you can use the ideas you experimented with. as if music theory didnt exist. i think they must have missed somthing when they invented music theory, and one day, only by experimenting, we may discover it.
what do you think?
