I'm one of those who purchased one, (JamMan Solo XT), many moons ago. Played it for maybe 20 minutes, then put it back in the box, where it's been collecting dust ever since. It's almost too complicated. I even got the 32Gb SD card so that it could do 32 hours of recording. I just couldn't get a clean transition at the loop end. Always sounded like a broken record when playing back. Maybe when I retire I'll mess with it some more.

Definitely not a "must have" pedal, in my book.

I have a Ditto. Love it.
I have a BOSS Loop Station. Love it, too.

But they are not essential.

I like having one for songwriting. It's nice to be able to repeat a riff over and over again for a verse or chorus and have my hands free to jot down ideas.

There's a reason a looper never become popular. Cause jamming with just rhythm guitar on the background sucks. I have a DOD delay from the 90s with 6 seconds of sampler that I never use.

Now I have seen them used by solo artists to create live performance art
And it was awesome

But their systems seemed much more complex than a ditto

I have a Jamman express.

Back in the day (you know, the early 2000's) these things didn't exist, were really expensive, and very limited. Today? Saw a Ditto for like $45 on the bay.

There's no pedal that every guitar player should have. The only necessity is a guitar; everything else is optional.

The difficulty in reaching a consensus on the Citizen Kane pedal seems a good indicator that there isn't one.

Every solo acoustic player that I know has at least one on their board. Some have a couple different loopers.

Any type of overdrive to boost the amp which has enough gain for heavy metal...:bigeyes:

The thing about a decent looping pedal is that they can be used for composition as well as practice. I am not talking about the standard 'loop a rhythm with backing tracks and play over it' pedal, but one that actually allows you to manipulate and combine loops in weird ways. When I work on my ambient stuff, these sorts of pedals really get some ideas going, especially when a few loops are going at once and they are not synced together. The music constantly evolves and is never the same.
