A preamp for direct recording?

Re: A preamp for direct recording?

the tubeman seems to be what I am looking for. 3 real channels (I need a clean and 2 od) I would use this live. My only problem is the price $399
Womanizer also sounds good, but no real 3 channel solution

Re: A preamp for direct recording?

Are you sure you "need" three channels ? You could always pop a booster or OD in front of it.

I like to think of my pick attack as the first point where I can get more or less gain, the volume knob on the guitar the second point. With that, I also can have "a lot of channels" and you could try that to, pick up a nice playing technique as well. But then again, I'm old ..

Re: A preamp for direct recording?

Might not "need"
Currently though, volume knob changes and pick attack dont make a huge difference (in my setup). Watching the womanizer demo, I was somewhat envious of the dramatic changes that the guy got with volume knob and pick attack changes.
I was actually considering a booster in front of a tube pre for an additional "channel"

I do NEED to pick up some technique however, as mine sucks. So you are right on there.
