A preview of my next build (metal content)

The body is pure 80s metal, but without the cheese. The headstock gives it a more modern edge. More aggressive, more like a jagged knife meant for gutting creatures that used to be alive.

May I present, a mockup of the Polaris.









Specs


Finish: Going for something close to Charcoal Frost metallic. Basically a dark gray metallic with just a tiny hint of blue.
Body: KNE Guitars alder Star body
Neck: bolt on, Warmoth Maple neck, Pau Ferro fretboard, no inlays
Neck profile: Thin C
Scale Length: 24.75"
Radius: 12"
Frets: 22 x 6105 - medium jumbo
Nut: Graphtech Black Tusq
Hardware: Chrome
Tuners: Either Gotoh or Grover
Bridge: Haven't decided yet, but it's gonna be a string through body tuneomatic style. Maybe a Gotoh or a TonePros.
Controls: Master Vol, Master Tone, 3-way toggle
Pickups:
-Bridge: JB8
-Neck: bridge model hot rails or bridge model JB Jr., in parallel



And why?

Well I had this JB8 sitting here for aeons, and I never got around to putting it in a guitar. All my guitars sound fantastic with the pickups in them right now. I love this JB8. Maybe it's got some magic in it, I dunno, but it rules. It's a ravenous, snarling beast. Like a 300 lb., 6 foot tall doberman with rabies. Terrifyingly awesome. It just needed to have a guitar that looked as devastating as it sounds.

Parts should start arriving in the next couple of weeks. I can't wait :headbang:

It's only costing me about $400. not much more than my Epiphone SG when it was new, and this'll probably sound and play loads better.

Though my SG is set up to be super slick and effortless to play.

The basic concept is: What's the most number of truly useful pickup combinations we can get with the minimal expenditure of dollars for pickups, and the simplest wiring scheme, with the least expensive, and readily available switches?

My idea is: 1 Humbucker, 1 RW/RP single coil, with 2 DPDT switches. They can be dedicated toggles or push-pull pots on the vol/tone pots. (One of the switches need only be a SPDT.)

Note that the neck humbucker is actually the neck single-coil in series with the bridge stud coil to form a virtual neck HB. I hope the diagram is self-explanatory.
All positions are noise-less.

Here's the quik-'n-dirty concept version. I'll do the hi-graphic wiring version later this weekend. (I'm using a link in order to save forum bandwidth. I'll post the hi-graphic version direct into the forum.)

that is quite interesting...although....

- This guitar is essentially two humbuckers, not a true H-S
- It's gonna be brutally simple, no fancy switching for a plethora of versatile tones, just bare bones all out bridge, all out neck (albeit in parallel), and for some bizarre reason I can't fathom, an in between position that'll never get used.
- I don't know for sure if I'll even bother with a tone control. we'll see.

so unfortunately, Artie, your diagram is totally not suited to this guitar haha. But I am really appreciative of the time and thought you put into this I'm sure someone else will find it tremendously useful!
