Hey I just finished my tele, my first attempt at refinishing an axe.
Done in Burgandy Metallic Mist. with a mini-hum in neck, hot stack in middle,
with it having it s own vol. pot, a 5/2 in bridge. A 5-way superswitch positions being: neck, N&B in series, N&B parallel, N&B out of phase, bridge
a TBX tone pot was used with center detent being as pot wide open. wired so turning down pot sends highs to ground and turn up past center sends
low to ground. hope yall enjoy it as much as i enjoy finally having it done:smokin:

Re: A Reranched Tele

mmm I was thinking about doing a guitar in burgundy mist. Glad to see one worked out beautifully.

How did you apply coats? did you wet sand? What kind of buffing compound? I found Stew Mac's three pack (coarse, medium, fine) work great.

Re: A Reranched Tele

Hey, nice guitar! Got a quick question....I have a TELE (on the way, bought on Ebay!) I want to put in a 5 way superswitch as you did, will it fit under the plate without cutting anything? Thanks!

Re: A Reranched Tele

i never was a fan of that colour but it looks like your project turned out.... nice job..

Re: A Reranched Tele

Nice Telemoddin' there! Nice color, looks a little spotty (could be the glare) but metallics are kinda tricky to spray evenly. Warming up a rattle can helps to atomize and pressurize the spray. Light 'even' overlapping mist sprays is the way to lay down a coat of metallic. Have fun.

Re: A Reranched Tele

that thing must get some crazy sounds with those pups.... what a combo!
looks great bro.

Re: A Reranched Tele

bah! blasphemy! :chairfall

This thread may have made me decide to do a burgundy mist guitar instead of a daphne blue/seafoam green!

you will do the seafoam green or daphne blue and you will like. do you hear me? seafoam or daphne and seafoam or daphne only! nothing else will suffice!!!

Inspired by this thread (and butnut's tele modding threads of the past), check this baby out:

Sweet! I lusted after an ebony board and big block markers with binding...nice! Matching headstock would kick! That purple color looks like somthing from the early metal pointy era...kool shredder.

all coats were aerosol can, i did have to wet sand the matallic color coat, early in the project to remove some splatters, due to sometimes moving the can to quickly. I later found you could blend those area's in with a lacquer rag. much better than sanding a metallic. applied about 25 coats of clear
wet sanded from 400-2000 hand buffed with turtle wax buffing compound, i didnt want to, i am not a fan of there products. but i didn't
want to spend 35$ for 3m finesse it 2.

yea you will have to move switch down on plate and slightly back and use mini pots, i had top wrap the switch with electicial tape to keep it from grounding out on copper sheilding and drill some recess holes in floor of cavitiy
but it can be done with out routing.

yea your right the are harder, light coats are the way to go, with it laying flat
gravity pulls down the metaliic better. Due to my work area i sprayed this hanging up. so it is a little streaky, the way the light hits it makes a difference too.

Re: A Reranched Tele

Any pics of the entire guitar? How about clips? Inquiring minds want to hear a mini hum in the neck of a tele :)
