A sub-700 dollar Les Paul? Srsly?

Re: A sub-700 dollar Les Paul? Srsly?

Lost me at Chambered and baked.

Thats usually code for: I've not tried either but am too much of a snob to believe anything other than Honduras mahogany/Brazilian Rosewood could possibly be good.

Re: A sub-700 dollar Les Paul? Srsly?

They probably started using baked maple because it is cheaper, and doesn't have to be imported from overseas. And they probably started chambering because they started using wetter, heavier wood. However, that doesn't mean that there can't be any good side effects of these spec changes. IME, baked maple is actually quite nice. I had an SG Special with a baked maple board, and I think I liked it more than rosewood. And chambering is also a good thing on a Les Paul IMO. Makes them less muddy. Muddiness is always my complaint with Pauls.

It's very tempting. I wish they came in a honey burst finish with P90's.

That looks like a great deal.

If shipping and import tax weren't as high as they are I'd seriously ask 1 of you Stateside guys to get 1 of these for me and ship it across!

Re: A sub-700 dollar Les Paul? Srsly?

I've got one, and it's one of the better Les Paul's I've played the last 35 years. Happy with the thickness of the neck, would have been even happier with a real 50's-sized neck. But it's a "Tribute", not a replica. Pickups are not satisfactory; waxed 'Buckers just don't sound authentic. Switching the mags around helps a lot, but this instrument is crying out for a set of Seth's.

Baked maple? Got that on my SG, not an issue...
Chambered? The same principle on my Warmoth Strat, makes it a little warmer, not an issue
No binding? Great, no more of those stupid nibs at the fret ends, maybe there is a god after all...
490R/498T? PG set in stock, easy upgrade...
$674.50? WOW!

Houston, we have a bargain!

Is it a basball bat neck? I love those. I'd put a set of 59's in there. That'd be awesome.

Re: A sub-700 dollar Les Paul? Srsly?

Mine is solid mohagony, ebony fret board, and sounds like ass. There is every possibility that chambered with baked maple could sound awesome.

Re: A sub-700 dollar Les Paul? Srsly?

Chambering might be a matter of taste, but in addition to a plywood fretboard there also is the issue of "satin" meaning "too cheap to fill the wood before painting".

Just like with any other faded series (and this one is, have no doubt) there will be use of the absolute cheapest wood and many parts.

For that money you can get a real les paul from Burny or Greco.

Re: A sub-700 dollar Les Paul? Srsly?

This looks like a killer deal. Slap some 59's in there with chrome/nickel covers and that'll be a secksy beast.

I'd also add a vibramate and a bigsby, but not many will agree with me on that one.

That looks like a great deal.

You buy me one and I'll ship it out to you :bigthumb:

You're all so focused on chambering and fretboard that you're overlooking the real critical factor:

Dark back

They don't stain them black because they're beautiful, one piece, rings-like-a-bell mahogany

I wouldn't care if my guitar was made of 750 pieces if it sounded good.
