A Suggestion...

The U.N. or whoever passes a law stating that all coil windings, polarities, and wire colors in pickups have to be standardized regardless of manufacturer. I've just realized I've been connecting my pickups wrong for 7 years now lol. No wonder they didn't sound right. Mostly with having to do with polarities not being opposite. Oh well... :smack:

Re: A Suggestion...

I did that to a buddy's guitar with his JB about a year ago. He has no idea only the screw coil is on. But he likes that overly bright sound. So... my lips stay sealed. Actually, I think that was a beautiful mistake on my part because it fits him and his sound.

The UN could pass a resolution, but no one would follow it.;)

I'm trying to figure out wiring irregularities on my Parker Fly Deluxe as I type this...well, actually, I gave up and left it with a tech.

HA! Yeah I don't think they're your best bet! Saddam didn't comply after 14 resolutions, and from everything I've seen, Larry Dimarzio is at least 5 times more stubborn than Saddam Hussein! We'd have to go nuclear!:laugh2:

BTW, this is not a political thread!:nervous:

Seriously I was just thinking about it this morning. Some people think the humbucking unit is the "whole" so they run the pickup Green to Red with B/W as the junction. Others think each coil is it's own unit, so they run B/W and R/G on the coils, and junction them as needed. Then there's the IBZUSA Dimarzio single coils, where the red wire is soldered right to the shield plate, so you have to use red as ground and green as hot, and phase correct the other pickups. It's really a mess out there. :smack:

In all seriousness, I think if Duncan or Dimarzio ever changed so they matched eachother, it would be the guy that changed who would get all the positive press. He would be seen as taking the high ground. He'd be the one that made our lives easier, and the guy who stayed the same would get no credit at all. It might be a good marketing move someday, and just make a change to your baseplate so everyone knows if they have a new one or an old one.

LOL!!
That must sound horrible!
Especially if someone picks up the guitar, expecting to hear/feel a nice fat, high output, humbucking tone!

Whats funny is that SD themselves don't follow a uniform color scheme. Some of their pups, (Antiquities?), are out of phase with there others, and while they use black for "hot" on the humbuckers, they use black for ground on the singles.
