just bought an svr-1 VR neck for half the price brand new at guitar center. i wished it was for the bridge position, unfortunately the sale only applies for the VintageRails neck. im planning to put it into my strat.
knowing that it is for the neck postion, im still planning to put it into my bridge.. i really want to have that vintage strat sound for it. i love its current single coils but just hated that "infamous" 60-cycle hum that they produce..
that is why the VR caught my attention. it is a hum-canceling pup packaged in a single coil. accdg to the SD website, it is close to a vintage single coil. close enough but not specifically and presicely similar. that is why im planning to put the VR(neck) in the bridge position. i dont want to sacrifice the tone that my neck and middle (especially the neck) pups can offer. im willing to put the VR in the bridge because of its ceramic bar.
ill retain my strat's mid and neck pup. i dont want to put it in the neck because of the ceramic magnet. i prefer ceramic pups in the bridge position. im planing to do these because ill be using the bridge position with gain. i prefer ceramic pups in gain. on the other hand, i love the alnico's when clean.
my problem now is that im afraid the VR neck's tendency to have low-output in the bridge position. im also afraid that if i raise it to high near the strings, it might distort a bit and loose its twanginess.. or if its too close in the strings it maybe microphonic when in gain..
the main question here is: is it ok if i put a VR (neck) in the bridge position?
if VR neck is not suitable in the bridge position, i might as well put it in the middle position. but i really still want to put it in the bridge. i hope things go well:14:
i really need your help in this.. i thank you in advance for your insights or suggestions.
