A2/A3 in a Neck Phat Cat

I've just placed my order with Wymore for a Phat Cat neck and an A3 magnet. There were no other magnets left besides an A8. I'd like to try the A5/A3 combo, but they ran out of A5's. Just wondering what would the A2/A3 combo sound like in the neck position of a hollowbody Tele? Is it a waste of time?

Also, does it matter which magnet I replace in the Phat Cat? Would the results be the same?

I culled this from several posts from Blueman335:

Phat Cats
Neck
A5/A3: Brighter still, with less low end. Great in an LP, was a little chimey in an SG
A4/A4:
A5/A4: Bright, clear, and well-defined. Compared to an A5/A3: more mids and a little less treble. Nice full sound. I use this pair a lot.
A5/A5: The classic Gibson P-90 pairing. Hard to beat.
A3/A3: chimey great for dark guitar
A3/A4: medium to low output
A3/A2:
A5/A2: Brighter with better definition than two A2's, but still a little on the dark side unless you have a bright wood.

Bridge:
A8/A4
A8/A5
A4/A4
But when you put in a different combo to bump up the treble (A5/A2, A5/A3, A5/A4, or A5/A5) they suddenly get sparkle & life, and have that great open P-90 sound.

As you can see, the A2/A3 combo didn't have much said about it.
Let us know how it goes.

I also picked up a PhatCat neck from Wymore to go with my PhatCat bridge and a bunch of magnets and plan on doing a bit of swapping based on Blueman335's recommendations.

I'm the guy that wrote the post on P-90 magnets that was quoted (above). I think an A2/A3 would work, definitely an improvement over the stock twin A2's, which are so dark. You might even like twin A3's. For me, the standard on a neck Phat Cat is a Gibson P-90 with twin A5's. That's the tone I want. Twin A3's will get you close, and an A2/A3 would probably be very good in a Tele, as it's a little brighter than the Gibson-design guitars I have.

:friday: hahaha yes, I was originally planning to make (or purchase) a 56 Gold top with p90's and a bigsby. Then I went through a period of regret for selling a Gretsch and a Epi 335. I ended up with a hollowbody Tele with double F holes. It's a combination of the 2 ... :naughty:

Contemplating either the Phat Cat or the Pearly Gates, still sitting on the fence... :banghead:

An Epi '56 Gold Top or a Lp Std with PG's: both are great choices.
