A2 in a Jazz pickup

A Ficus
So i saw this last week in a thread

I really like the Jazz as is with the A5 magnet

What I am wondering is

What changes if I put an A2 in there

Positive / Negative ?

In my experience the A2P will be warmer than a regular Jazz--think Guns 'n Roses. A Jazz will be brighter.

If you play rock or metal, I find an A2PB matches well with something from the Custom line like the C5.

Some people prefer the 59 but I always found them too warm or occasionally hollow with a mid spike. I generally like the Jazz better than the 59.

In my experience a Triple Shot surprisingly does not change the sound of an A2P much if it is changed to split, parallel, or series.

Positive or negative depends on what you're trying to accomplish with it. An A2P is like a very rounded Seth/PAF type. Really wide, round mid hump to it, but still sounds like one flavor of Gibson PAF.

through a marshall jubilee on the dirty channel I think, and maybe a boss ge7 with a mid hump (maybe the boss in the solo only, don't know)

Not even the Jubilee. It was recorded with the famous SIR No.39 Marshall. Use a Crybaby to get that extra mid hump.

The A2P is a great pickup. I had the Slash version too (the first version) but I think I like the regular A2P better. A Custom Custom is in the bridge. A great combo. No splitting, no phase reversals, nothing fancy. Simple 3-way switching.

Ditto.
Jazz + A2 = A2P
More rounded/softer highs; smoother lows; lots of mids; slightly lower output. It's just a great sounding neck pup.

I first tried the Jazz in the neck and also loved it. But then I tried it with a UOA5 and loved it even more. My personal preference is the Jazz bridge model with a UOA5 in the neck. Slightly softer than with the A5, but fuller.

If this is what you're looking for, you can't go wrong.

I'm not a fan of the Jazz neck. Maybe a combo of the amps I'm running and my guitars, but I find the Jazz neck to be bland and lifeless. I have a Jazz in the neck of my Purple quilt Carvin DC 127 with a Perpetual Burn in the Bridge and like that combo. The A2 Pro is much fuller and smoother clean and has a big singing tone for solos. I found the Jazz neck tone to be anemic and thin but like it with the A2.

Jazz with an A2 IS an A2P - FACT

That said, I always hate it when people use the GnR example. Yeah, it does that, but it does way more than that. That is one specific sound that is easily achievable with an A2P in a neck.

Agreed! Swapping the mag in a Jazz to a A2 totally transforms the pickup. Sweeter, bigger, rounder, with a softer feel. To me, it also feels hooter even though it shouldn't. Much better pickup in my experience for classic rock and blues plus is a much sweeter and fuller sounding pickup clean. One of my favorite neck pickups from Duncan. Pairs very well with something like a Custom Custom, Custom 5, Hybrid or a Perpetual Burn in the bridge for blues and classic rock tones.

I think the positive is it rounds out the Jazz as well as makes it less of a hollow neck pickup that is all attack and some boom.

I think the negative is you lose power on an already tame pickup, and you kinda lose the attack that makes the Jazz a Jazz.

GnR is probably the sound most non-musicians hear when they think Les Paul and blues rock.
