i have a 36th anniverary in my lp bridge position right now, and its coming out. tried it stock, tried it with an a2 bar, which was better, but it still doesnt do it for me. i got a brobucker from jeff h (thanks man!) and gonna put that in. i was planning on putting an a2 bar in there, but im wondering if an a3 might be a good match with the higher wind... thoughts? anyone tried something like this? neck pup is an a3 antiquity which is glorious

I am with you on the glorious antiqity neck with an A3. I had an brobucker in the bridge position over 10 years ago. I did not gel with the brobucker, even with an A2 or a A4. Sorry, never tried an A3. The brobucker was too dark and wooly for me. Now my bridge is the AntB with an unoriented A5.

I don't know. Walking around with an SD that looks like a DMZ is kinda like walking around with an unloaded open carry in that it looks cool, but it's probably best to just not have it in the first place.

I'll DM you my shipping address and we can get you squared away 🙃

sure! the pup is free, but shipping is $80. does walking around open carry look cool? hmmm... i have a handful of double cream duncans, including a set of antiquities, but this guitar needs a little more in the bridge. i had an antiquity bridge in there which was good, then tried uoa5 in that pup which brought the power where i wanted it, but the top was too a5. tried fully charged a2, which was better and i lived with that for a year or so. then got the 36th ann, and its good, but not good enough. ive thought about pulling the slugs but seems like a pup swap is a better option.

the brobucker with a5 is a beast, i dont find it dark, but its probably stronger than i need. im also an a2 junkie when it comes to humbuckers. those chewy round mids just do it for me. a3 is close to a2 in my experience but seems a little more even with a little less bass which is why im thinking it might be a good fit for the bro in this les paul

I don't know how A3 would fare in a Brobucker. I would think with an A2 or A3 it would be too dark. And I like dark pickups

than what, the stock degaussed a2? pretty similar. little tighter bottom end, little different top end. hand to explain without hearing it, but not all that much different. going from the degaussed a5 in the brobucker to a3 will be a significant change

Ah, I thought the Brobucker had a fully charged A5. Degauased A5, A2, and A3 are close enough that, like you said, it would be tough to make the decision without hearing it.

I've never owned one, but the sounds I've heard others get from one seemed about as close as you can get to perfect stock.

i was referring to daves post about the antiquity, not the bro. but the bro did have a slightly degaussed a5 if i recall correctly

Ah that makes sense.

Thinking about it more, an A3 would probably be perfect. Depending on exactly how degaussed your A5 is, I would think an A3 would have a very similar EQ, but quieter.

I have used a Wagner Godwood, which is a 10K PaF on roids type pickup, with A2 and I thought it was great.

I also use his 22K Ironman with A2 and it equally sounds great. I don't think A2 always equates to dark and muddy in good quality higher wind pickups.

Didn't know the Brobucker had an A5. Mine sounds like it's already an A2. 36ths are murky in the mids for me, not enough separation of notes. I don't have experience with Antiquity, but A3 necks I've had a couple. I wouldn't put an A3 in a bridge just to match the neck. IME If the bridge sounds good, and the neck sounds good, they'll sound good together.

I have my Brobucker from the original run in my LP and its coming out. Not enough bite. I have a set of Dimarzio PAF 57's going in next. The 10k wind was a great idea but I think Seymour was wise in not walking that path. They are a bit niche, not a perfect fit for everything.

The original Custom Shop group buy run had aged A5's if memory serves. I am not sure how they were built later on

Woah, easy guys. If you keep it up I may end up going to the CS and ordering a Blackened Brobucker before the day is over

Heck, try the A3. Buddy has Custombucker plus in his lp and they do sound fantastic.

But always hard to tell whether its the pups or his hands.
