Magnets have the same general EQ curve regardless of what pickup you put them in (comparatively, of course) Compared with the stock A5's in the jazz/jb, the A8 will be much louder, with tons of raunchy mids and bass, and comparatively weak highs, they're described as having the singing qualities of A2, and from my experience, I have to agree with that. The bass is huge, and while it's not as tight as ceramic, it's close enough that anyone listening won't know the difference. Plus I don't like my bass too tight anyway, I like the response of A2 and people here say that that's the 'loosest' of all the magnets. So you can accurately predict the results given what the existing pickup and magnet sound like. The biggest variable in the equation (again, in my opinion) is the guitar itself.
The key word here is "big".
Anyone tried a jazz/jb with A8? what were the results
Surely it becomes the "Pearly GA8s" at this point.
Blueman how does the 500T with the A8 sound compared to the regular ceramic? I am guessing it warmed it up nicely. Also did you keep the 2 outer spacer magnets in it as well?
Interesting.... I have a Crazy 8 on the way, and it's replacing a JB in a Floyd guitar that has painful highs.
Looking for recent feedback regarding a PG with A8. I have a LP with ebony fret board with PG's in the neck & bridge; as expected the bridge PU is running a tad on the bright side. I'm debating if I should try an A8 in the PG-B or just toss a SH11 Custom Custom in the bridge. Will an A8 smooth out the upper mids & highs?.
Anyone have experience with either/both?
Thanks!
Wow, double surrection. 2007 and 2013. Its always spooky to read your own 10 year old threads. Thanks for the treat, it made my day.
