So I've been playing my EVH 5153 since early 2013, but through an Orange PPC412 (got it for cheap from my buddy), but they never really blended well (icepicky IMO). Two weeks ago I finally found somone willing to part with their EVH cab for an affordable price. Guy was desperately in need of cash, and while I feel kinda bad for him, he set the price, not me. So afer I get it home and into our rehearsal space, I'm mostly out of boredom browsing the music ads, and then SHE appears! Managed to get a hold of the owner right away and he kindly agreed to hold onto the guitar for a few days, as I couldn't come look at it until four days later.
And now she's mine!
1989 Charvel 750 XL. 24.75" scale length, lovely flame top (fortunately not nearly as clown-burst-ish in real life as in the picture), electronics have been swapped and some jack**s has repainted the headstock and put on Jackson logo, although the repainting is actually quite well done. Bridge is still original and in very good shape, as is the rest of the guitar. Overall, it's damn near mint! This monster weighs a ton though, we compared it to my bass player's ESP P-bass and its heavier by quite a fair margin. The neck is significantly larger than what I'd expect from a superstrat, though it is remarkably similar to my Heartfield Elan built around the same time.
Been hunting this guitar for five years now, I'm really, REALLY stoked! We play tuned down to C, but the setup on her is perfect down to a T, so I'm a bit torn as to whether I should adjust it for downtuning or keep as is.
As for the cabs, they do complement each other surprisingly well. Placing the Orange on the floor means I no longer have all those spikey upper mids right in my ears, now its muffled and bassy and adds even more oomph to the already pretty low and thumpy sound of the EVH cab.
Sorry about crappy pics, cell phone and pressed for time.
