It would have to be everywhere, with new tuner and new bridge designs. But it would be a much better system for both locking trems and fixed bridges.
Yes to this. One manufacturer, less availability, higher cost, and you're stuck with whatever gauges and materials they offer. I was excited about the Steinberger strings when I got my Synapse but the ease of string changes quickly lost its glamour when the strings themselves weren't right for me.
As far as ball ends on a trem - having used a Kahler for a few years - the thin wire around the "ball" can also become a point of failure that you don't have on a Floyd. I had a couple pop off. I heard tell of people soldering them to try and avoid that. I don't really mind stringing and changing a Floyd, not enough to make it worth changing to something else with different drawbacks.
I still want to try a Virtual Jeff though.

With the exception of the string breakage hack mentioned above, I would have agreed. Unfortunately, the two systems I have known that tried it – Steinberger and the Floyd Rose Speedloader – both went the way of the dodo.
I still want to get a TransTrem Steinberger one day, but who knows if strings are even available by the tiem I can afford one…
There are still companies that make double ball strings- I use them on my Synapse, and my ZT3 used them (it had a TT3 on it). Those double balls are 'reinforced' on those sets- there is a lot more than just a small wire connecting the string to the ball.

4 of my 5 guitars have a Floyd/FR licensed bridge. Once I learned how to set them up they are what I prefer. I used to have one of those Speed Loaders on something years ago. I liked it overall, but I could never manage to find a saddle/hollow saddle screw, so 1 string had a regular FR saddle. :9:

I got my first Floyded guitar when I was about 14 or so - read some instructions online and was good to go with setups :dunno:. This was also a licensed version, so over time dealt with the usual stuff which plagues these units.
The over tightening thing seems typical - the notion of 'more torque = more stability'. The locking nut pads in particular don't need to be that tight to maintain tuning!
On the rare occasion I've broken strings, I've also done the unwind from the peg trick. This is also why I prefer regular tuners on a Floyded guitar - can add some extra wraps on the posts for in case.

Well, that guitar was getting its use and abuse before the internet days and that kind of adjustment was RTFM or ask a friend and since most people are idiots, word of mouth was just a questionable as truth on the internet today. I have seen many Floyds in this state, good thing these are all easy to find parts and easy fixes. Very cool guitar!
