ABM Height Adjustable Brass Nut

Re: ABM Height Adjustable Brass Nut

I bought a 4-string version a year or two ago, but I haven't installed it yet. As I recall, the size is right in between a P neck and a J neck. I could be mistaken, but there was some reason I never got a chance to use it. I love the concept.

Neat but seems like all those movable parts would cancel out any sustain increase you get with the brass.

Re: ABM Height Adjustable Brass Nut

Well i really want to try one they look really well made like all abm stuff. I did read a bad point about the small screws moving when string bending, but i think i could fix that problem easily with some plumbers tape on the threads.

I don't think the sustain would be that noticeable but that's just a theory haha.

I have gone a bit to far sometimes when making nuts and have had to start again. Pius i like the idea of being able to change the nut height easily over the years of a guitar as it becomes more used.

Re: ABM Height Adjustable Brass Nut

I like to put a couple layers of masking tape over the first fret when I'm filing down the individual slots on a nut. When the string starts to buzz the tape, I know that's when I should stop filing.

Thats a good idea... kudos

Yeah, because replacing only the nut compensates for all of the instrument`s other deficiencies, especially on fretted strings :D

So called Webster nuts (brass nuts with screws instead of slots) have been around for decades. Warwick used to (still does?) use them exclusively on their basses for well over 10 years, and in the bass niche they are actually quite popular.

I personally haven`t tried them on guitars for reasons I would call primarily superstition.
