Jesus and Mary Chain "Psychocandy," pretty much every track. total and complete wall of fuzz. not a big muff or fuzzface but a shin-ei. i don't think even dinosaur jr has such a massive fuzz tone. some of their later releases were less fuzzy then the debut but fuzz was always present with them.

Bump to the top for a GREAT thread....

I'm diving into the fuzzes again and have just ordered the MXR 108 Classic Fuzz(Silicone Fuzz Face) and had a Big Muff Pi with tone wicker for a short time that I couldn't get along with the ambient hiss when turned on.

Really? The Big Muff Pi with Tone Wicker is lousy, huh? That stinks, because it really looked like it might be the pedal for me.

#5 of 25....germanium fuzz, with a load...that is one nifty knob!

One of my mates makes those.....it is a very warm and nice fuzz....can even use it on relatively clean amps!!!

I wouldn't call it lousy at all, tonally it was pure Big Muff with more tweakability. What I found was that with either battery or one spot power, on my board or directly into my Maz Jr it had a considerable amount of white noise hiss when turned on. Comparing it to the other od pedals on my board(KoT, Screamer Fuzz or BB)they were all completely silent at idle even at full gain. I didn't gel with the Muff, but after researching TGWIF's wonderful list of different fuzzes I went with a Fuzz Face as more my liking. It could be that I had a bad one, but it was the only one in my local store to try at home.

With the buffer off it is pretty similar...I was just curious, I had a feeling that it was due to the size...plus the buffer is nice if you have an old school non buffered wah!

Thanks for the clarification, JumpMarine. I really just need to go try a bunch of them and see if I like any of them. I don't really feel that it would fill a particular gap in my tone, but I've never spent any time with them, either. And the last time I played with a guy who had a Big Muff through a Marshall, his tone was godly.

David was pretty much done with Fuzz Faces by 1976 and they were pulled from his boards and racks by 1981...

In David's 1994 rack he had a number of stompboxes...many of them dirt or fuzz but that tone is in deed a Big Muff of some kind...
