About PAF tone

Re: About PAF tone

Thanks for the links. I was aware of the Legendary Tones Shootout and that link is a good one that's been posted here a few times.

I think of all the humbucker shootouts I've read, that the Legendary Tones Shootout is the most accurate. At least it's the one I agree with the most!

Lindy's a friend of mine and the interview with Lindy is interesting reading.

Lindy's humbuckers won the paf shoot out in Vintage Guitar Magazine a few years back...along with the Harmonic Design humbuckers.

I've owned a few real 50's pafs. Although I really like Lindy's humbuckers and have used them in a few of my own guitars, I don't think the alnico 4 magnet humbuckers Lindy winds sound like the old 50's Gibson pafs I have owned.

I've never had an old paf that was as bright and articulate and had the string to string separation that Lindy's do.

All of the old paf's I have owned sounded alot more like the warmer, more midrangey tone of Seymour's Antiquity humbuckers with the alnico 2 magnet, or the alnico 2 Tom Holmes pickups I have in my Les Paul.

My feeling is that very few old pafs from the 50's had an alnico 4 magnet because none I've owned sounded like Lindy's alnico 4 humbuckers.

I have some of those alnico 4 magnets if anyone is interested in trying one.
