i have a few questions that i liked to be answered :D :
1) how is the "E.Q." compared to for example the Boss EQ pedal?
2) how is the "Compressor" compared to MXR/Boss compressor pedals?
3) does it have "Tap Delay"?
4) how is the "Noise Gate" compared to MXR/Boss Gate pedals?
5) how is the "Reverb" compared to the TC M3000?
6) does it really sometimes/often becomes "dead" during a GIG?

I used to own one of these and I have this to say about it:


1) how is the "E.Q." compared to for example the Boss EQ pedal? The TC offers a 3-band parametric EQ that is adjustable for boost/cut, frequency center, and bandwidth (Q) control. The Boss unit it a graphic EQ which is very different. With the pedal you are set with 7 different band of EQ but they're all fixed with no adjustable bandpass.

2) how is the "Compressor" compared to MXR/Boss compressor pedals? The compressor was the best i have ever heard. Blew away everything else I'd used or tried. Truly professional/studio quality sound.

3) does it have "Tap Delay"? Yes, there is a Global Tap Tempo control that will work for the delay.

4) how is the "Noise Gate" compared to MXR/Boss Gate pedals? Again, the best I'd ever tried. VERY fast gate and allows for precise adjustments of the parameters and doesn't kill undertones like cheaper pedals will. Plays nice with the compressor engaged too! It's one of those effects where you don't realize how well it's working until you turn it off... then you're like "Uh oh... wheres the loose cable?" :D

5) how is the "Reverb" compared to the TC M3000? I have not owned an M3000 but i can say that the reverb sounds in the G Major are superb. Again, studio/professional quality.

6) does it really sometimes/often becomes "dead" during a GIG? Haven't heard of any problems... ask Robert_S, i think he has a one.

I just sold a factory refurbished G major. There is a 40% chance you will have problems with it locking/ freezing up due to either or the dps chip/ display ribbon, power supply, paramater wheels. I had all of these replaced and what a pain. I actually paid more for the repairs than I got when it wwas resold. TC fises these for $95. I did not want to wait and had mine repaired at first locally at $235 for a new dsp chip. It worked fine for 1 month then started the same crap of locking up. I then sent it to TC for another $95 then bought a new one in the meantime. I sold the repaired one and I am hoping I have no problems with my new one. I love this unit and have spent alot of time programming it. I would say buy one but be ready to backup your presets and read the manual thouroughly. Also have money on hand in case it craps out on you. It sounds great and has many usable functions. I was able to get rid of my tuner, loop switcher, and run everything midi with this unit. Good luck

I don't have one but I know guys with this grade "A" space battleship.


questions 1-5: it is a SUPERB sounding stuff. Among guitar-destined equipment, considering FX quality, it beats everything I've heard. It is a top-notch studio quality unit while all the Boss, MXR etc. stuff is made for withstanding a long line of serious beatings. An Eventide Harmoniser will eat the TC-GM alive, of course. But, who would apply a $5000 FX unit to a guitar rig in the stompbox world...?

question 6: I have seen it going frozen onstage six or seven times with a couple of different players...

I pretty much agree with all the stuff said do far. The first one i had saw a demo model and I only took it until a new in the box model came in and then I swapped them. The first (demo) unit did have a quirky dial on it but the new one hasn't given me any trouble and I've played quite a few shows with it as well as using it daily here at the house.

The G Major sounds every bit as good if not better in some ways than the Rocktron gear I have and it sounds far superior to the Lexicon MPX 200 I have here at the house. Features-wise it blows both away.

If I have any problems with it, I'll let you guys know.

Does the video on tc's website with marc cooper(?) give a fair picture of it? It does sound fantastic in the video!

i am right that,

the TC GMajor has only :
Dynamic Delay
PingPong Delay
Dual Delay

but the TC M300 has more as:
Dynamic Delay
Tape Delay
Studio Delay
Delay
PingPong Delay
Slapback Delay

?

TC says you should only use the Gmajor in the fx loop of your amp or mixer
Run your pedals normal and the G major in the fx loop

Kelvin, Im not familiar with the M300 but with the ping pong, dynamic and dual delay funtions and the feedback high and low cut filters in the G Major I don't think you'll find too many delay options missing. While the delays in the G Major may not do everything the M300 does I have yet to find the G Major lacking in the delay department.

I have found that as a general rule pedals sound best front end and rack units sound best in the loop. If you wanted pedals in the loop as well you could do that. I'd probably go from the send to the pedals to the G Major to the returns. Depending on whether you have mono or stereo sends/returns you could use a splitter after the last pedal to feed the G Majors r/l inputs to keep the true stereo imaging.

word up. The g-major is extremely transparent. If you don't have good gear around it, it won't sound great.
