ac15cc1x or vc30-112?

Vox c15cc1+alnico blue VS Laney Vc30-112

My friend is thinking of getting one of these 2 amps and they cost the same new, tried to find 2nd but couldnt. Theres no place we know that is able to try out these amps. We play hard/rock (guns and roses, gary moore, led zeppelins) with plenty of gain and radiohead/muse british stuff. Maybe some blues.

The amp will be used at a master bedroom apartment, and garage and maybe small gigs in the future.
So the choices are:

-Vox ac15cc1 with a new alnico blue speaker
-Laney Vc30-112 stock.

Which would you guys prefer and recommend.

Get the Vc 30 then save up and get a Celestion gold. I have a ac15ccx1 its a good amp, but i liked my old laney with the celestion gold better!!! You can get more tones/sounds, dial in the tone a lot better with the laney

I also have the Vox and it doesn't really have the amounts or type of gain for hard rock like GnR or such. With a good dirt pedal it's a whole different beast though. I also like how its 15 watts are just perfect for my use, as I can easily open it up at home and use it full blast while rehearsing.

Both great amps. I have a love hate thing w Vox AC amps. The VC30 is something I can get along with very well. I don't like the reverb on the AC15. The VC30 has great reverb but it's very weak even all the way up. The AC15 benefits more from a speaker change. The stock Laney sounds great. Both can be improved with a new speakers. The AC15 can be too trebly. The gain sounds kinda farty. I love the smooth sounds of the VC30. Although past 1:00 on the gain dial of the VC30 it starts to get kind of mushy. Both amps need an overdrive to get heavier rock sounds although the VC30 has more gain. Just not as useable w the gain past 1:00. The VC30 is a more flexible amp.

I'm not going to recommend you one or the other because that would bring me trouble around here You can find some soundclips of the AC15 w alnico blue and eminence speakers around the net. Harder to find clips of the VC30.

I do agree about the reverb being very bad on the AC15. It's practically useless. It does have a tremolo that's a little better, though.

I'm not sure about the trebliness. The amps own dirt can get a bit bright when played hard but I've always managed to tame it when needed.

The gain is what one should expect from such an amp. But with a nice dirt pedal it can sound incredible. I've done some pretty impressive stoner/doom stuff with a strat in B and a fuzz pedal in front of the amp.
