I've read once(plexipalace I think) that there was a period, and there is agreat debate over what are actual years/albums of a period are, where Blackmore had Vox AC30 sitting inside his Marshall 4X12 cab. I am listening to In Rock now and I swear that part on Bloodsucker where it sounds like it is an open A string double stop, has exatcly the same tone that Brian May had on Tie Your Mother Down. Am I right, is that AC30 on In Rock?

Re: AC30/InRock/Blackmore

You also see the AC30 on the "Perfect Strangers" album and I think Ritchie stated using it during the "Machine Head" era...You definately see the Vox in the Perfect Strangers album though!

Re: AC30/InRock/Blackmore

Ritchie used a Gibson ES335 and a Vox AC30 in MK 1 Deep Purple,no new news there!!

Re: AC30/InRock/Blackmore

Apparently a lot of In Rock, Fireball and Machine Head are an AC30 with a Hornby Skewes treble booster in between. Later on Ritchie had his Marshall Majors modded with another preamp stage, voiced to replicate the Hornby Skewes, and around the same time (late '74) introduced the Akai tape deck into his rig. I remember reading an interview with Blackmore where he said that he spent weeks with the people at Marshall trying to get one of their amps to sound like his favorite AC30 but with no luck. He really didn't like the Marshalls that much but wanted the power for live shows, but a lot of the classic MkII recording was with the AC30.

Cheers......wahwah
