Those guys used 71-82 Marshalls of every kind, and Gibson Flying V's and Strats with humbuckers. Probably Gibsons/and/or/Duncans. I don't know details, but that's the basics.
I saw them live back then, but also remember the hilarious video. It was a circle of Marshall stacks with the band in the center.
He's a very, VERY awesome guy. Extremely generous with his knowledge.
More then happy to share...
Email him or call & talk him up...
He's made a TON of other rekkids too.
Ozzy, Skid Row, Dokken...
He also mixed Master of Puppets.
Frightening.
You should contact him.

He's still very good friends with Wolf... his studio (wireworld) is/was actually on Wolfs property outside of Nashville. Wolf moved back to Germany fairly recently... maybe a year back?
I saw them opening for Iron Maiden back in the day.:2: Wolf Hoffman used a Flying V (No German guitar god should be without a V. :laugh2 I have no Idea what he used to goose his Marshall's, But he had Killer tone! Maybe a google search on wolf Hoffman may reveal what he used?
For that album it was Wolf playing a Fender Strat with a Duncan Distortion and a Floyd. The amp was a 100 watt Marshall (1959 SL I think) boosted with a MXR Distortion +.
i have a live version of Balls To The Wall that has the best sounding guitar tone to it!!! i have no idea where and when it was recorded as it is on one of those cheap cd compilations that does not list much info.... man it's a nice edgy metallic sound... it does sound like a stereo amp set up and it almost sounds like they are using a BBE type exciter as well.....
