Acoustic Amplification

Hi guys. I don't visit this forum very often, because my amp knowledge is minimal. Maybe I should spend more time here.

I have been thinking about putting a bug/pickup in my acoustic guitar. If it matters, it's a Crafter GA7. I doubt many of you will have heard of them, but they make really good guitars.

What kinds of bugs would you guys recommend? Would I need a preamp or whatever? Would it be best to use an acoustic amplifier, or would some standard Marshall on clean channel suffice?

Thanks in advance.

Re: Acoustic Amplification

I can't answer your question, but try a search on the subject. I thought I saw a thread on this in the last month, or so. Good luck!

Re: Acoustic Amplification

I've thought about doing the same, but don't record or perform so don't need an acoustic pickup.

That said, here are a few useful questions for you to ask yourself:
How much do you want to (can you) spend?
Is it for recording or live gigs?
Do you mind modifying your guitar? (like you'd have to for most under-the-saddle transducer pickups)
Do you need exact reproduction of acoustic sound (dedicated amp?) or just getting pretty close?

You usually do need a pre-amp. Sometimes they are included with the pickup "system". Did you check out the d-tar pickups site?

Hope this helps a little,

Chip
