Thank you man!

I recorded it in an empty hardwood room with a dynamic mic (yeah, really) wedged into a guitar stand, with no preamp, through 2 or 3 radio shack adapters directly into the mic jack of my laptop.

I added buckets of room reverb in Audacity.

It sounded great on headphones, but it's too much 'verb I realize now.

Dude, I defiantly love it..
I'd love it even more with some soft, sweet vocals.

It's like the song you hear at the end of a series like one tree hill or something haha.

[that was a compliment]

i agree with fender bass.

i get a sad feeling from it, like "nevermind, well be ok despite this or that, even thou things will never be the same"

Hahaha. That same quote was pretty much going through my head too.
I like songs like that though.
Makes me want to reminisce.

Very Goo Goo Dolls-ish, me likes! :) I love the open sounding chord work, that's typically the sound I go for myself. Definitely has some soul to it, I get that sad reminiscing kinda vibe from it.

Thanks! haha, yeah it does sound like the "end of a movie" now that I listen back to it.

funny, it was during one of the happiest years of my life

I was tuned to DADADD I think, definitely sounds like a tuning the Goo Goo Dolls would rock. really easy to sound good when you're tuned like that!

Seriously --- try that tuning, it's awesome. I figured out the tuning from The Used's "On My Own" (I don't know if it's exactly the same as this tuning, I just figured it out with a ****load of trial and error, but my version of On My Own sounds spot on)

"On My Own" is one of my favorite songs from that time period --- moving.

I'll let you in on a little secret... "To Your Health" (the song I posted on the forum) was done in a very similar tuning, DADAAD (w/ a capo on the 2nd fret). ;)

Good taste! :D

It sounds great and I get the idea where the song is going to.

I once recorded a song of mine I like best with a so-so quality but the playing was "special". I tried to re-record it with a better quality but the playing wasn't so meaningful. Hopefully you can do it again.

Good point.

Maybe to recreate the "me-in-college" vibe I will do nothing but drink beer and stay up late for a week, interrupted only by halfheartedly doing some math problems and going to the river.

I will hopefully be re-tracking this / adding some song structure in the next week or so. Thanks for all your positive support, guys!

Oh, and here's this, as a kind of an "in-joke" for all ye who think that acoustic guitars are the devil: the exact same song played with a Jackson and a high gain amp

Recorded a million years ago before I knew anything about recording.

Have fun comparing the two!

:laugh2:
