Acoustic pickups that can do more

I want to get a pickup for my Martin DM that can do at least good acoustic sounds and also plug in electric for country blues slide. I saw their mag mic demo that can do it, but I wanted something cheaper, and maybe a bit greeezzier, like the Woodie with adjustable pole pieces. Most acoustic pickups don’t distort in a musical way.

I may have to DIY a mount for something like a gold foil to hit the sound I’m after. Maybe an underwound P-90 could do it too.

Has anyone plugged their woodie into a small tweed amp? How was it?

Thanks!

i used a magmic into a 5e3 for a rec and it sounded good. i think the active mag would be a good choice, but again its not cheap. the woody is a fine option.

I would recommend a Bill Lawrence A300, sounds great for acoustic tones but also sounds really good plugged into a guitar amp. Haven't plugged into a small tweed but plugged mine into a Hot Rod Deluxe here.

Not sure if its what you are looking for but these are usually around $35-$50 (paid $30 used for one and $49 new for another one.)

That was interesting. It sounded somewhere between an electric an an acoustic. More towards electric. Nice licks.

Re: Acoustic pickups that can do more

When I was in high school my uncle gave me a horrible Pencrest steel string and I mounted a cheap strat pickup in the soundhole. It was a great Delta Blues and Grunge guitar. Surprisingly even a crappy ceramic strat pickup gives a pretty good acoustic sound.
