hi all!

i have acoustic guitar yamaha F-340, and i need something to preamp it for recording (mixer - pc). so i wanna know what is the best of seymours magnetic soundhole pickups. i guess that the best is mag mic, but it is not available here, becouse i am in serbia. only acoustic tube, woody xl, hc and sc are available in stores here. and price doesnt matter. as i said, this is primary for recording, not for live, and i most play ballad, rarely soft rock and country.

and what means 'single coil', 'humbucker', 'hum canceling pickup' and 'no 60-cycle hum'?
my english is bad, pls be patient..

Re: acoustic pickups.

Hi and welcome to the forum!

As you stated, the MagMic would be the best thing. I use one with a taylor and am more than happy for live performances and when hooked up for recording it sounds great too (although I prefer to use mics).

Out of the choices you listed, I personnaly would go with the woody XL, being the top of the line of the woodys, which I have heard a lot of good things about. It would cancel hum (which would be great for recording purposes) and the soundbites I've heard were quite good. I don't believe you could go wrong with any of the ones you've listed but the woody XL would be my choice.

Evan will probably chime in as he usually does for acoustic questions, he always has good advice.

Have fun!

Re: acoustic pickups.

Thanks Surgeon. And thanks for joining the forum, quickfinger.

The Woody XL is the top of the Woody line and offers hum-cancellation as well as adjustable pole pieces. Also, the SA-1 Acoustic Tube is very good sounding. It has lower output, but a very warm and natural sound. It also have a volume control. Both are good choices.

If price really doesn't matter, I would do whatever you need to do in order to get a Mag Mic. It's expensive but it's really a great-sound pickup. In my opinion, it's the best acoustic guitar pickup. Period.

If you're looking for preamps, I would highly suggest the D-TAR Preamps.

Best of luck.

Re: acoustic pickups.

thanks. one more question, what does it mean - 'adjustable pole pieces'? does that mean i can adjust volume for every string separately?

Re: acoustic pickups.

Essentially, yes, adjustable pole pieces are mainly for balancing string volume, though it will affect the tone in other ways.

Re: acoustic pickups.

On the D Tar Forum, Rick Turner recommended the Timberline and the Mag Mic to me for a 3 way system. I'll probably end up dropping the coin on that set up after I get my income tax refund. :burnout:
