Acoustic Simulators, which ones?

Hey guys I've been trying to work on an acoustic sim on my GT10 for a few days. I came up with something that is somewhat ok-ish sounding. I know the Boss AC3 is supposed to be good, actually that's the only one I know of. Are there other units like in the market that work a bit better with a touch more options. There is the Zoom A3 but I think it's for acoustic guitars specifically.

So far what I've come up with using the gt sound like the View attachment Mombasa.mp3 I've attached. I tripled the track, panned 1 left, 2nd to the right & one in the center. I'm not exactly expert in recording, I used Reaper for recording & gt10 for sim & fx. Actually I'm kinda okay with what I've got here, but it would easier to have a separate pedal that does it so I can stick it onto my pedalboard when I'm not carrying the gt around. Budget would be maybe $180 tops, used stuff would do too. The clip I attached I had used my PRS SE 24(main gigging guitar) with duncan 59n & C5b. So something that can work with humbuckers mostly.

Re: Acoustic Simulators, which ones?

I've been thinking about getting the small inexpensive Mooer acoustic sim pedal (Acoustikar), the video I watched sounded pretty good, and it has different settings for different guitar sizes, and also a piezo-pickup sound. Goes for around $75-88, depending on where you get it. Might be worth considering.

Re: Acoustic Simulators, which ones?

I'll pickup up a used Boss GE7 EQ. That should be able to work for things.

I've tried googling & there aren't many acoustic sim pedals out there. The Mooer looks like a clone of the AC3 but improved in the sound from the video but the size is not suitable for me. I have wide feet : private:

Anyways thanks guys.

Re: Acoustic Simulators, which ones?

I have a Zoom. Pretty awesome.

That said - I get some killer acoustic stuff out of my Roland Cube. EQ/Gain and Reverb/Delay settings are key. But....

The key to the sound was using a Dimarzio SuperD + neck PAF together! SuperD gives me the best Acoustic sim of all my pups!!!!!

Re: Acoustic Simulators, which ones?

And keep in mind the goal here: IS it Acoustic 'vibe' or a 'Fooled me, I thought there was a D28 in here!'

One of those won't happen....

Re: Acoustic Simulators, which ones?

I read an interesting review of an acoustic guitar amplification system once... It basically implied that at most rock concerts the only reason an acoustic comes out is to tell the audience "Ok, these next few are more mellow, acoustic songs". (Meaning they dont think the live tone is going to sound just like the studio acoustic recording) I've heard some good acoustics live and some bad ones, most of the good ones were miced with a condenser mic.

I guess what I'm saying is that if you're trying to get an "acoustic" sound out of an electric, and most *acoustics* don't sound that good live, I'd just dial in a scooped mid clean tone in the middle position and work with that.

(Full disclosure, I hate piezo tone...)

I think acoustics don't sound good unless they're mic'd to heck. Neither pickups or piezos sound good on one; you either get that hyper-treble-y Ani DiFranco sound or that Kurt Cobain in Unplugged sound, but there's no wood richness or acoustical reference in it.

Behringer makes an Acoustic modeler that's a clone of the Boss one, if I remember correctly.
Tone King did a thingie on it.

Re: Acoustic Simulators, which ones?

I get pretty good results with my acoustic just through a Baggs Para Acoustic DI. My pickup is a transducer though, not sure how different that is from a piezo. I would like to put a little board together for my acoustic though, probably a delay, a boost and one of those BBE Sonic Enhancers.

I have to agree that the best acoustic sound I've gotten from a regular electric has been on the Roland Cube.

Re: Acoustic Simulators, which ones?

All three of my Fishman piezo bridges give great acoustic tones. I guess it all depends on what you are usig for a piezo, just like any other pickup ther are good and bad. I have yet to find an acoustic sim that I love that is why I go the Fishman route.

Re: Acoustic Simulators, which ones?

I have an AC-3 for getting some "acoustic" tones. Its definitely got some usable settings. Its not going to sound like a mic'd acoustic but it definitely can do that acoustic electric sound more than passably.

Actually I noticed that too when I had the SuperD in the bridge & 59' in the neck. Funny you had the same experience too :D

Not really expecting a mic'd acoustic sound from a sim, but a really good acoustic-electric would be fine for live. The best I can think of is to have a ABY box & send a signal through the sim directly to the PA without passing it through the amp. Will have to grab my HSS for that though & use the single coils for a more clearer sound.:33:

Re: Acoustic Simulators, which ones?

I really dislike amplified acoustic sounds, which sim pedals seem to be aiming for. When I use an equalizer, I'm really moving to make the sound from my speakers sound like it's coming straight from the soundhole of an acoustic guitar.

Re: Acoustic Simulators, which ones?

The Mooer Acoustikar I believe has settings for different size acoustics (un-amplified), as well as "amplified" acoustic sounds (piezo and other). Has anyone tried the Mooer pedal?. The sound samples sounded pretty good, but I'd like some feedback from someone who actually has one.

Thanks,
Al
