Acoustic Tube or Woody XL?

Well, lately I've been coming up with a lot of stuff on my acoustic, and I'm looking for a soundhole pickup to use for recording. Problem is, I can't decide between the SA-1 Acoustic Tube and the Woody XL. They're close to the same price, but which do you think would be better for my application? I'm kind of leaning towards the Acoustic Tube, because I think the onboard volume control would be handy.

Oh and to clarify, I'll be plugging it into a small mixer, which goes into my soundcard. :)

Anyone have experience with either?

I got the tube because I thought it sounded a little more natural. The downside is, it doesn't look as nice and I'm not a fan of the mounting clips.

Get a MagMic if you can afford it.... very very nice sounding.... I'd chose that over a woody any time for recording since it combines the mag with a soundhole microphone that really brings it closer to the sound of your acoustic....

I'd certainly love to get a Mag Mic, but it's a bit out of my budget right now. :blackeye:

Basically why I want an acoustic pickup is so when I come up with a cool progression or riff, I can quickly record it before I forget it. :laugh2:

It's a low-end guitar anyway. I can always sell the pickup when I get a guitar with a built-in one. :)

If you are looking to record an Acoustic I would just use a good Mike. I use 3 Mikes when I record acoustic guitar One about 6" in front of the sound hole, one about 1 foot away fromm the 12th fret, and one over my right shoulder. This gives me all kinds of ambient sound and I can hear the guitar ring true. No question recording acoustic guitars is considerably more difficult than recording anything else. I have not done this in quite a while, but if my memory is right I had each mike isolated in a Tascam 4 track. This gave me the ability to mix it all down and get the volume right for each sound that I recorded.! Give it a try

If I can't afford a Mag Mic, I don't think I can afford 3 good mics :laugh2:

If the absolute rendering of the acoustic qualities of your guitar isn't your first priority, I'd say go for whatever's cheapest. You can always buy a better one further down the road....

Just my opinion....
