Re: Action Height

As low as I can possibly get it without significant buzzing -- but with tall frets so I can still get under the strings for big bends...

Re: Action Height

Alright Yanks....

1/16in = a hair over 1.5mm.

So for guys like Krankguitarist you're action is 1.5mm and not about 3mm or so.

And if EX-250 really has a 4-5mm action, his strings are high enough that he could play slide with a led pipe....

....and the very high 6-7mm option is a 1/4in+ off the fretboard.

Re: Action Height

I suppose I should answer the question.....

Measured on the low E at the 12th fret with no pushing down on the strings, 1.8mm on my Strat and 2mm on my LP. I can get the LP down to 1.2mm, but I think it sounds better up around 2mm, and the Strat's in bad need of a fretjob, or else it'd be lower as it doesn't seem to buzz like the LP.

christ....good thing you called me on that, i was measuring the wrong way. its more like 1.5mm for me

Re: Action Height

I just checked the action, and on my main acoustic, it's a hair over 3mm on the treble side, and right at 3mm on the bass, 12 fret, strings open.

main electric, right at 3mm on the treble side, and a hair under 3mm on the bass side, strings open, 12th fret.

yeah, im using a peice of sh!t ruler thats really hard to read

Re: Action Height

i prefer it fairly low, i just feel more comfortable. When if irst got my taylor i disliked it until the enxt night i set the action lower and now it plays like butter and sounds even better!

Re: Action Height

I personally do not like the sound or feel of very low action, at all.

I like my action fairly high. I like it where I can still play fast runs and arpeggios w/o [too much] resistance, but high enough to let strings ring out.

Re: Action Height

well for me its simple the standard for gibson les pauls is 5mm on the 6th(string) and 3mm on the 1st(string)
for an epi its 6mm on the 6th and 4mm on the 1st so I set my Gibson les paul to about 4/5mm on the 6th and 2/3mm on the 1st with out the 1st fret being fretted works good for bends and also if you want to get better bends when you change your strings steel wool your frets with triple 0 and then polish them with car wax or chrome polish!!
