Active+passive=sweet LUV or just trubble.

Hi!
I recently installed a '59 in neck position in my PRS Tremonti SE and it sound sweet, but for my bridge pickup I want something that really bites. So I figured an Livewire Heavy metal should suit my needs. But then I remembered someone once saying to me that you shouldn't have 1 active and 1 passive pickup in the guitar. But from the schematics found on the SD homepage I could'nt figure out anything that should stand in the way.

Anyone got more experience in this area plaese help my out.

Not so much bad rather than it's a wiring hassle, each pickup needs its own volume and tone knob and can't share one, and I'm pretty sure you can't use a toggle or something to combine them.

You can use an EMG PA2 hooked up to a passive pickup to change it's impedence down to match the low impedence active pickup. Plus, it has a trim pot (it's originally designed as a booster) which will allow you to match the passive pickup's output with the active's. It's a pretty cool thing to do if you ask me.

My guitar has 2 vol 2 tone so there should be no problem??

The problem will be when you have both pups on at once. The 59 wants a 500k pot, and the LiveWire a 100k pot. With both pups selected, they'll both "see" an 83.3k pot. You'll lose some highs on the 59. If you never select both at once, it won't be a problem.

Not if you´re using Dnncan actives... you´ll need a phase inverter for it to work properly..... For EMGs this is a fine solution, though
