how would i go about wiring a passive and an active pickup together using a 3 way toggle and 2 pots?

You should use a 25K pot for the active pickup and a 250K/500K/1000K for the passive pickup. The "both pickups on: position on the 3 way toggle will not work as it should......

that's a matter of personal preference. For volume i prefer log.
