Hey gang!
Awaiting my first guitar kit, a BYO.com LP Custom.
Standard LP fare, mahogany body/neck/maple top, with the LP Custom extras.
Comes with some rather substandard humbuckers that I never intended to use in the first place. I've always liked the premise of active electronics, but while they sure sound wild when pushed to the brink(a bit more than I go for) they seem to fall short when backed off....they're clear, but at a sacrifice of fullness, warmth.
I really would like to try active pickups in this new build...have used SD passives in addition to others on other guitars I've owned. Pleased with the results, but ready to try something new and add some "oomph" to the overall sound.
Tonal ranges for me....on the clean range, the general honey-bell tone you'd expect from a Les Paul.....as far as gain, I like a good overdriven tone when pushed hard, but still retaining clarity(cannot tolerate a muddy sound).
Appreciate any help that can be provided.
