Active pickups question

Hi there.

Recently got myself a guitar with active pickups.
And, just been reading about the 18v mod, and wonder....

If I remove/disconnect the neck pickup, do I get more power to the bridge pickup.?
...like.... is the neck pickup draining/using battery resources, even though its not in use?

If thats so, removing/disconnecting it would be the same as the 18v mod.

Anybody have any answers?
Somebody with some active pickup science knowledge out there?

As far as i know no, the out put should be the same with 2 or 1 pu'ps you get more headroom with 18 volts aka less mirco distortion in layman's, if you do a/b comparison 9-18 you can hear tonal differences , but if you just playing at bedroom levels or just jamming with buddies there is probably no need. if you are just asking if you get more power with one pup and one 9 volt, i don;t think you could hear a audible difference.

Re: Active pickups question

Disconnecting the power supply to one of the pickups will merely extend the battery life.

Re: Active pickups question

Neck pickup disconnected. I think it sounds better now

active pup's in general don't have the magnetic field as passive, so your vibration ist interrupted as with passives, this has been shown and tested many places that using 1 passive in the bridge keeps vibration interuption from the neck to a minimum, hence why some people do that. Actives on the on the other hand dont behave the same way. you don't get the same benefit with actives

Re: Active pickups question

Tossing the neck pickup makes all music better \nm/

As long as you think so. But there is nothing scientific or otherwise that says there should be a difference. If you hear one its in your head.

+3 on it as well , i just un -plugged a blackout neck pup and a one of my emg's ones no difference.
