Active premp in bass: yes or not?

My bass player friend has finally decided what p'ups to use in his Designed by Tobias 5-string bass: the AJB5 set.

The set is active, so it works with a battery.

My question is: is it worth to also get the active preamp?

I'd like to hear some owner of this set and see what they think.

Thanking in advance,

Re: Active premp in bass: yes or not?

I feel bad for posting again, I think I posted in your last thread.

The Parker 5 that has the AJB-5s has a Sadowsky pre-amp (stock). The AJB-5s are a bit hotter than the stock Dimarzio Ultra Jazz pups so it can overdrive the pre a bit when volume is wide open and I put some meat and potatoes into it.

Different preamps will have different effects on the tones you get. I would say its user preference on going active or staying passive.

i would say that an active preamp is a must for any bass that is not vintage, all it does it make the bass more veristile. a friend of mine as a fender active deluxe jazz bass and frankly its awesome. It has vintage voiced jazz bass pickups, but the active preamp allows him to get nice hot sounds, jaco sounds, p-bass tones. There is no downside as far as im concerned.
