what's the big deal with active pups? Why are they perceived as better for some things? Does anyone have any experience with them and if so what can you tell me? Please unload your wisdom upon me :32:

While I can't really comment on other peoples perceptions I do understand why some folks prefer some active pickups. Active pickups can have higher output than passives and they tend to have less dynamic response which tends to act like higher amp compression, leveling the signal out of the pickups. Some people like that kind of thing and I guess that phenomina does lend itself well to certain styles of playing.
Personally I like the character and response of passive pickups over active pickups. Passives are far more touch sensitive.
