Actual Good Service At GC??

I know that GC is a easy target for bashing and rightfully so. They usually hire very dumb people trying to play hip and talk down to you. Recently I was at a GC in Pittsburgh on saturday just looking around and seeing what new stuff they got since I am half looking for a new amp. I decided to plug in a Gibson LP Studio into a Mesa F-50 to see what the mesa hype is about (btw it sounded real real nice). A sales person came over and asked me if I liked it, and I did and asked me what I was looking for in terms of sound. He asked me first if I knew anything about tubes vs. ss technology. I did and explained that I wanted a more vintage gain and tweed cleans, and I told him I dont want a heavy 5150 gain and he understood! By god I had a competent person I talked to at Guitar Center of all places!! He showed me different amps and I was impressed with his knowledge, he was young but he had knowledge. Just saying theres hope yet for GC

Re: Actual Good Service At GC??

The last salesperson I dealt with at GC was very knowledgeable and knew what he was talking about. I try to find them again when I go back but sometimes they've already moved on. Once you find someone there that knows their stuff, latch on. Good deals can come your way with an established business relationship there.

I dealt with a guy named DJ at the north houston location and it went very smooth. He did what he said he was going to do, he was professional, gave me the tools I needed to make a decision and left me along, coming to check on me periodically, but not too often. I was very appreciative.

Re: Actual Good Service At GC??

The GC in Carle Place NY is very hit-or-miss. Some salesmen are extremely helpful and accomadating, others are flat out liars.

Example- I want to get an Yngwie Malmsteen Strat- they cost around $1399. I asked this particular salesman, he told me there's no such thing as an Yngwie Malmsteen Strat for $1300, the only one Fender makes is the $2800 which is made by the same luthier that build Yngwie's personal guitars. And worse of all, I have to wait 6 months to a year until Yngwie orders a few before Fender is able to build a few more for the public.

Total B.S.- since I can get them from Americanmusicalsupply or Musician's friend.

That's one bad apple. Most of the salesmen have been extremely helpful.

Re: Actual Good Service At GC??

in my area GC has EXCELLENT customer service and very knowledgeable staff. I actually have been feeling bad the last few days because i have seriously been ripping them off with my price haggling. I'm gonna tip a few of the guys some $20s this weekend because i feel pretty bad, cause they always help me alot, and then don't make money on my sales. I'm a little too good at price haggling

Excellent advice, right there. I go to the same salesmen, and I know what to expect each time. It helps when they aren't "too pushy", either. In the long run, they are better off giving you breathing room, because they do have a 30 day return policy, and you would be less likely to return it if you spent enough time in the store w/the item to begin with.

The guys at the Virginia Beach GC are pretty cool, the tech's cool too.

Re: Actual Good Service At GC??

Actually, I've dealt with Carlos at the Baton Rouge GC a couple of times. Very helpful salesman. Seemed knowledgeable about what I was seeking, but let me test the products long enough to compare them. I did not choose HIS favorite, and he handled it like a pro. Imagine that.

Re: Actual Good Service At GC??

IME, some GC salesdoods are cool while others are butt monkeys. Not that much different from your typical music store. The ratio over the past few years seems to be improving, though.

Even so, I have my preferred non-GC stores for the big-ticket stuff I buy new. Other than PRS, GC doesn't carry that stuff anyway.

Re: Actual Good Service At GC??

Over the last five years I have bought almost exclusively from my local Guitar Centers at Beaverton and Clackamas, Oregon, in the suburbs of Portland. Great guys.

Actually, no, Larry. Of course, my purchases were pro headphones and straplocks.:D

Re: Actual Good Service At GC??

I've been to the Virginia Beach GC. The salesman was a sure nuff cool guy and he seemed to know his stuff too.

The Sam Ash in Raliegh is a decent place overall. The salespeople work hard to help customers out and they are very knowledgeable for the most part. The guys at the GC across the street just don't have the knowledge I need. I often wind up teaching them stuff about gear when I'm there. The GC guys do work hard, but they just don't measure up to the Sam Ash folks.

Re: Actual Good Service At GC??

The only time i have ever had good service is when i was there and one of the sales people had the same name as me. and i avoided any metal and led zeppelin and had some great les paul service.
